THE THREE MOST SUCCESSFUL FUJI MUSICIANS OF THE MODERN ERA

Fuji music has produced several legends, but three names have remained at the centre of the conversation for decades.

1. K1 DE ULTIMATE

The biggest authority in contemporary Fuji. K1 successfully moved the genre from its traditional base into elite social circles, international venues and mainstream Nigerian entertainment. His longevity and influence are difficult to rival.

2. WASIU ALABI PASUMA

Pasuma gave Fuji a younger, street-friendly identity. His ability to collaborate with Afrobeats and hip-hop artistes helped introduce the genre to listeners who might never have embraced traditional Fuji music. His popularity also extends into Nollywood.

3. SAHEED OSUPA

Known for intellectually rich lyrics and lengthy musical compositions, Osupa built one of Fuji’s most loyal fan bases. His music combines entertainment with Yoruba philosophy, social commentary and verbal craftsmanship.

This ranking is not based on estimated wealth. It considers longevity, influence, catalogue, audience reach and continued relevance.

However, Fuji has other powerful figures—including Adewale Ayuba, Abass Obesere, KS1 Malaika and the pioneering legends Sikiru Ayinde Barrister and Kollington Ayinla.

Do K1, Pasuma and Osupa deserve to be called the “Big Three” of modern Fuji—or would you replace one of them?

YOU KNOW THE ACTRESS—BUT DO YOU KNOW THE MAN BEHIND HER RISE? 🎬

Many viewers recognise Anikẹ Ami Olaniyi, but fewer people know the filmmaker who helped shape her journey.

He trained her, directed her productions and repeatedly trusted her as the face of his stories. He also wrote or co-wrote some of her movies. That consistency helped Anikẹ develop her craft and grow into one of the recognised talents in the Yoruba film industry.

But she was not his first discovery.

Before Anikẹ Ami, he reportedly discovered and mentored Jumoke Odetola, managed her career and featured her in roles that helped introduce her talent to a wider audience.

And his influence goes far beyond mentoring actors. He is an accomplished storyteller, director, actor and producer whose works include *Somewhere in the Dark, Jagbajantis, Ex-Factor, Pink Beret, Ilé Ọdún, Ilé Ọdún Tuntun, Ọfin (Jungle), Maryam* and *Ọ̀ntẹ̀ (Stamp)*, among others.

His stories often explore the unsettling side of human existence—the secrets people conceal, the consequences of their decisions and the frightening realities hiding beneath ordinary life.

There is something about his storytelling that recalls the late Alhaji Yekini Ajileye, although he has developed a voice and creative direction entirely his own.

Some filmmakers chase attention. Others quietly build actors, create memorable stories and shape an industry from behind the camera.

Look closely at the man in the first photograph.

💔 A LEGEND TAKES HIS FINAL BOW

Nigeria’s film industry has lost one of its greatest pillars.

Veteran actor Olu Jacobs has passed away at the age of 84, bringing to a close an extraordinary career that spanned more than five decades.

Born Oludotun Baiyewu Jacobs on 11 July 1942, he trained at the prestigious Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London and built a remarkable career across British theatre and television, international cinema and Nollywood.

With his commanding voice, unmistakable presence and exceptional ability to embody every character, Olu Jacobs gave dignity to the acting profession and helped shape the Nigerian film industry we celebrate today.

He was more than an actor. He was a teacher, an elder statesman and an enduring example of discipline, excellence and longevity in the arts.

His performances will remain with us. His influence will continue through the generations of actors he inspired.

Our thoughts are with his wife, Joke Silva, their children, loved ones and the entire Nigerian entertainment industry.

Rest in honour, Sir Olu Jacobs. Your final bow may have come, but your legacy will never leave the screen. 🕊️

Which Olu Jacobs performance do you remember most?

“I PLAYED A STROKE PATIENT IN A MOVIE—THEN IT BECAME MY REALITY” — VETERAN ACTOR YEMKEM BREAKS DOWN

Veteran actor Yemkem became overwhelmed with emotion during an interview with Adeyanju as he recounted the painful turn his life reportedly took after portraying a stroke patient in a movie.

According to the actor, shortly after returning home from the film set, he noticed unusual changes in his body. His speech became uncontrollably fast, his legs began moving rapidly, and eventually, his hand and mouth became twisted.

He later discovered that he had suffered a stroke.

“That was how my struggles began,” he said tearfully.

Yemkem also revealed that he had sold his car and invested his savings in movie production. Unfortunately, the financial returns did not meet his expectations, leaving him with little after years of hardship.

His housing situation has now added to his difficulties. He explained that his landlord recently passed away, and the landlord’s children have asked him to leave because they intend to renovate and repurpose the property.

“I don’t even have the money to rent another place,” he said as he broke down in tears.

It is heartbreaking to see a veteran actor who contributed to the growth of the movie industry facing such a difficult period.

Yemkem is now appealing to the public for prayers, support and financial assistance.

May God strengthen him, restore his health and provide him with a safe and comfortable home. May compassionate people rise to support him during this trying season. 🙏🏾❤️

If you are in a position to help, this may be the moment to show love to a veteran who has given so much through his craft.

Please share this story until it reaches someone who can assist him.** 🤲🏾🕊️
