Meet one of the current students participating in the ongoing 4-month Certificate Course in Proficiency Certificate in Photojournalism, PCPJ.

Lawal Taofeek Oyewole: a street photographer who aspires to be a documentary photographer and photojournalist.

He's interested in exploring societal narratives which include man, his actions and involvement in the society.

Oyewole believes that photography is not just about creating visually interesting images, it is about storytelling.

He's a graduate of Sociology.

The Nigerian Institute of Journalism's programme in photojournalism kicked off this week.

It is a 4-month Certificate Course with seven participants:

Esima Blessing.
Oluwaseun Alade.
Godwin Maxwell.
Taofeek Oyewole.
Adegbite Seyi.
Ogunlana Ademola

The programme is aimed at increasing visual literacy among the photographers in preparation for a future career in the media.

During the course of the programme, the students will be exposed to the following modules such as COMPOSITION, LIGHT, EXPOSURE, GENERATING STORY IDEA, NEWS STORY, PORTRAITURE, SINGLE IMAGE, CANDID/STREET Photography CAPTION Writing,etc

The programme started in 2006 as a collaboration between Amsterdam -based World Press Photo (WPPH) and the Nigerian Institute of Journalism (NIJ).

Over 200 photographers have been trained since the inception of the programme.
