STORY TITLE: “HE MARRIED SOMEONE ELSE… THEN CAME BACK”
EPISODE 2: The Secret That Destroyed His Marriage.
Immediately after Nonye ends Emeka's unexpected phone call, the emotional tension rises as Emeka's marriage begins to unravel, while a new man unexpectedly enters Nonye's life.
––––––––––––––––––
Setting: Nonye's boutique, late afternoon.
Nonye slowly places her phone on the counter after ending the call.
It rings again. Emeka calling.
She stares at the screen.
It rings again, and again.
She finally switches the phone to silent.
A message appears.
Emeka: “Nonye, please. Just give me five minutes. I need to explain everything.”
Another message.
Emeka: “I know I hurt you. Please don't shut me out.”
Nonye wipes a tear from her cheek.
Nonye: (soliloqising) “Five years ago, I begged you to explain but You chose silence.”
She locks the phone.
Nonye:
“I'm not opening that door again.”
(Nonye looks composed, but it is obvious that Emeka's return has reopened wounds she thought were completely healed).
Setting: Emeka and Chioma's luxurious home, evening.
Emeka enters through the door visibly upset.
Chioma immediately approaches him.
Chioma: “Welcome home, darling. You look—”
(Emeka brushes past her abruptly.)
Chioma: “Emeka?”
Emeka: “Please, Chioma. Not now.”
Chioma: “What happened?”
Emeka: “I said not now!”
(Chioma steps back, startled.)
Chioma: “Why are you shouting at me?”
(Emeka throws his car keys onto the table.)
Emeka: “Because today has been a terrible day.”
Chioma: “And I'm supposed to know why?”
(He looks at her angrily.)
Emeka: “Maybe you should start telling me the truth.”
(Chioma's expression changes.)
Chioma: “What truth?”
(Emeka had noticed Chioma making some calls at odd hours but says nothing.)
He walks toward the bedroom but something about Chioma's reaction makes him suspicious.
Setting: Their bedroom, later that night.
Chioma is in the bathroom. Her phone is lying on the bed and a message notification appears.
Fred: “I miss talking to you. Please let me see my son this weekend.”
(Emeka read the message and freezes.)
Emeka: “Your son?”
(He picks up the phone and another message appears.)
Fred: “Six years and you still haven't told Emeka the complete truth.”
(Emeka's face drops.)
(Chioma walks out of the bathroom and sees him holding her phone.)
Chioma: “Emeka…”
(He slowly turns toward her.)
Emeka: “Who is Fred?”
Silence.
Emeka: “Chioma... who is Fred?”
Chioma: “It's not what you think.”
Emeka: “Then tell me what I'm supposed to think!”
(Emeka holds up the phone.)
Emeka: “You have a son?”
(Chioma's eyes filled with tears.)
Chioma: “Emeka, please let me explain.”
Emeka: “How old is the boy?”
(Chioma looks down.)
Chioma: “Six.”
(Emeka takes a step backward.)
Emeka: “Six years?”
Chioma: “Yes.”
Emeka: “So one year before I married you…”
“You already had a child?”
(Chioma nods slowly.)
Emeka: “And you never thought I deserved to know?”
Chioma: “I was afraid.”
Emeka: “Afraid of what?”
Chioma: “That you would leave me.”
(Emeka laughs bitterly.)
Emeka: “So you hid it from me to keep me?”
(Chioma begins crying.)
Chioma: “I wanted a fresh start.”
Emeka: “You don't get a fresh start by hiding somebody's child from the person you're marrying!”
Setting: Same bedroom. The tension is overwhelming.
Chioma: “Emeka, please. I love you.”
Emeka: “You should have told me the truth before I married you.”
Chioma: “I was scared that my past would destroy our future.”
Emeka: “You destroyed our future the moment you decided I wasn't worthy of the truth.”
(Chioma reaches for his hand. He pulls away.)
Chioma: “Please don't leave me.”
(Emeka looks at her with disappointment rather than anger.)
Emeka: “I can't do this anymore.”
Chioma: “What are you saying?”
(He takes a deep breath.)
Emeka: “I want a divorce.”
(Chioma freezes.)
Chioma: “Emeka... please.”
Emeka: “I've made enough decisions based on fear.” “I won't make another one.”
(He walks away.)
Several days later....
(Emeka repeatedly calls Nonye.)
Phone screen: Emeka calling...
No answer.
He sends messages.
Emeka: “Please talk to me.”
Emeka: “I know I don't deserve your forgiveness.”
Emeka: “But I need you to hear the truth.”
Emeka: “My marriage is falling apart.”
Emeka: “I should have chosen you.”
(Nonye reads the messages. She doesn't respond. Then another message arrives.)
Emeka: “I'm coming to see you.”
(Nonye whispers to herself)
Nonye: “Please don't.”
At Nonye's boutique, in the afternoon. The boutique door opens.
Emeka walks in carrying a huge bouquet of roses and several beautifully wrapped gift boxes.
Nonye immediately recognizes him.
Her expression hardens.
Nonye: “What are you doing here?”
Emeka: “I'm here because I couldn't keep saying everything through a phone.”
He puts the flowers down.
Emeka: “I brought these for you.”
Nonye doesn't touch them.
Nonye: “Take them back.”
Emeka: “Nonye, please.”
Nonye: “I don't want your flowers.”
Emeka: “I don't want to pretend anymore.”
He begins explaining.
Emeka: “Chioma hid something from me.”
“My wife has a six-year-old son from her former fiancé, Fred.”
“I found out through messages on her phone.”
Nonye listens silently.
Emeka: “She hid it from me before we got married.” “My marriage is over, Nonye.”
Nonye finally speaks.
Nonye: “Emeka, I'm sorry you're going through this.” “But your marriage is not my responsibility.”
Emeka: “I know.”
Nonye: “And whatever happened between you and Chioma doesn't change what happened between us.”
Emeka: “I know I hurt you.”
Nonye: “You didn't just hurt me.” “You abandoned me.”
“You promised me a future and then watched me receive your wedding invitation.”
Emeka's eyes fill with tears.
Emeka: “I was wrong.”
Nonye: “Yes.” “You were.”
She pushes the flowers gently back toward him.
Nonye: “Take your gifts.” “I don't want them.”
Emeka: “Nonye, please give me another chance.”
Nonye: “No.” “I don't want you back!"
Emeka reaches for Nonye's hand, desperate to stop her from walking away.
Emeka: “Please, just listen to me!”
Nonye tries to pull her hand free.
Nonye: “Let go of me, Emeka.”
Emeka: “Nonye, I'm begging you!”
Nonye: “Let go!”
She struggles to free herself.
At that exact moment...
The boutique door opens.
A handsome, well-dressed man walks in carrying his car keys and looking around for assistance.
Uche: “Excuse me…”
He notices the situation. His expression immediately changes.
Uche: “Sir.”
Emeka turns.
Uche: “She asked you to let go.”
Emeka reluctantly releases Nonye.
Uche steps between them.
Uche: “Are you okay?”
Nonye takes a breath, visibly shaken.
Nonye: “Yes.”
Then quietly:
Nonye: “Thank you.”
Uche looks at Emeka calmly.
Uche: “If someone tells you to leave, you leave.”
Emeka stares at him.
Emeka: “This doesn't concern you.”
Uche: “It became my concern when she asked you to let her go.”
A tense silence fills the boutique.
Emeka looks at Nonye one final time.
Emeka: “Nonye... you're really choosing to walk away from me?”
Nonye looks at him calmly.
Nonye: “You made that choice five years ago.”
“You just didn't realize it until now.”
Emeka's face falls.
He looks at the flowers sitting untouched on the counter. Then at Nonye.
Finally, he walks out.
The boutique becomes quiet.
Uche turns toward Nonye.
Uche: “Are you sure you're okay?”
Nonye nods.
Nonye: “I will be.
Uche smiles gently.
Uche: “Good.”
He looks around the boutique.
Uche: “I actually came here to buy something for my mum.”
(Nonye manages a small smile.)
Nonye: “Then you've definitely come to the right place.”
Uche smiles.
Uche: “I think I have.”
Nonye looks at him for a moment.
For the first time that day...
She smiles genuinely.
“Nonye thought Emeka's return was the beginning of another heartbreak.”
“She didn't know that the man who walked into her boutique that afternoon wasn't just there to rescue her from the past.”
“He was about to become part of her future.”
