SCENE 3 — MICHAEL WAITS

Outside the house, Michael checked his phone.

He called Lucious.

No answer.

He called again.

Still no answer.

Michael became impatient.

Michael:

"Why isn't he coming?"

He walked toward the house.

Before he could knock, Lucious came outside.

Michael smiled.

Michael:

"There you are! Let's go."

Lucious looked at him.

Lucious:

"Michael, who introduced you to this opportunity?"

Michael's smile disappeared.

Michael:

"Why are you asking?"

Lucious:

"Just answer me."

Michael became defensive.

Michael:

"Does it matter?"

Lucious:

"It matters to me."

Michael looked at him for a moment.

Michael:

"Lucious, I thought you trusted me."

Lucious:

"I want to trust you. But I also need to know where you're taking me."

Michael became angry.

Michael:

"Your problem is that you listen to too many people."

Lucious remained calm.

Lucious:

"Maybe. Or maybe I'm finally asking the right questions."

SCENE 4 — THE PRESSURE

Michael stepped closer to Lucious.

Michael:

"Listen to me. You complain about your situation every day. I found a way out for you, and now you're questioning me?"

Lucious:

"I'm not rejecting you."

Michael:

"Then come with me."

Lucious looked toward the house.

Lucious:

"I need time."

Michael laughed.

Michael:

"Time?"

He shook his head.

Michael:

"Time is what poor people always ask for."

Lucious became uncomfortable.

Michael:

"If you want to remain where you are, stay."

Michael turned around and walked away.

Lucious watched him leave.
