Here are some tips to help:

1. Learn the Basics Thoroughly

Notes and Their Values: Learn the names of the notes, their positions, and how long each note is held (e.g., quarter notes, half notes).

Outworking Your Teacher: The Path to Mastery

People often ask me, "Mr. Music, How can I play every instrument perfectly, like you?"

My answer is simple: you can—even better—but it takes relentless , , , and . If you're not willing to put in the work, your dream will remain just that—a dream.

Scripture says, "I have more understanding than all my teachers" (Psalm 119:99), but this only comes with action. If your teacher practices 8 hours a day, you must practice 16—consistently.

Neglecting even one day can set you back weeks. Master one instrument at a time, and don’t skip the basics.

Steps to Mastery:

- Outwork Your Teacher: Practice more than they do—every single day.

- Be Consistent: Never skip practice; consistency builds mastery.

- Focus: Start with one instrument before moving to others.

- Set Goals: Divide practice into specific areas like technique or repertoire.

- Seek Feedback: Learn from mistakes and grow from criticism.

- Sacrifice Comfort: Let go of distractions to prioritize your craft.

- Stay Inspired: Immerse yourself in music and keep your passion alive.

This morning, I received a message from a grandparent who has been closely observing her granddaughter and wants the very best for her. She shared,

"My granddaughter uses everything as a microphone 🎤 and drums. She also sings. She’s 4. How old should a child be before we send them to music school?"

Reading this filled me with so much joy because I know this little girl won’t have to go through the challenges many others have faced due to a lack of guidance or proper direction.

Here’s my response to her question, and I’m sharing this because I believe it will also help others who might be in a similar situation.

Please read carefully;

The ideal age for starting music education varies depending on the child's readiness, interests, and the specific instrument they wish to learn. However, here are some general guidelines:

1. Early Childhood (Ages 3–5):
General music classes: At this age, children can start group music classes that focus on rhythm, singing, and movement. Programs like Kindermusik or Suzuki Early Childhood Education are ideal.

Introduction to instruments:
Some instruments like the violin or piano can be introduced using methods like the Suzuki method, which emphasizes ear training and parent involvement.

2. Ages 6–9:
This is a great age to start formal music lessons. By this stage, children have better motor skills, attention spans, and can read music.
