WHEN REALITY HITS YOU
This morning at about 7:45 am,as i was going to buy detergent to wash few dirty clothes before starting today's work (painting) at Metro city estate Apo Abuja.I overheard someone calling my name,even though I couldn't see his face as he was inside the moving tricycle (Keke),I had to wave back for him to know I noticed him.

Immediately i crossed the road,I got a notification from Whatsapp and guess who's message was it?,Khalid my former teammate from Gidan Kwano United football club Minna Niger state.He asked if I was reciding at Apo,I told him I came to paint in an estate (Metro city estate).

Honestly speaking,I was happy to hear from Khalid again after a while,the last time we played together was a farewell match we played few months ago which was between we graduates of FUT Minna who had played for the team against current players of the team.He told me he was on his way to national stadium to train.

Truth be told I felt very bad when Khalid told me he was going to train at the stadium,not because he was going there,but I just remembered it's been long I played active football 🥲🥲.This brings us to the main purpose of writing this.

Few years ago,all I wanted to become was to be a professional footballer.Anyone who had watched me played football will tell you I Aminu Amos Ndam was a very good defender,I was a utility player.I could play from Right wing back, central defense and defensive midfield.

Today reality has hit me so hard I had to choose between chasing football career or painting (which is the work that puts food on my table)🥲🥲.I had to make this decision because I have never had someone to sponsor me throughout my football career.I guess my mum was the only one that ever bought me a rubber boot after I had sustained an injury as a result of playing bear footed 😔😔.

I want to used this medium to advise young boys like me chasing football career not to only chase football alone,but learn a skill too.

QUIT SMOKING AND DRINKING OF ALCOHOL

Growing up as a boy in Kpakungu (a ghetto in Minna Niger state) was indeed an adventure.We grew up in the midst of thugs(area boys) who were always causing problem as a result of drug abuse,they took all kinds of illegal drugs all in the name of "Muna neman chagi (we want to get high ).

This popular area really messed up the lives of some of my friends I grew up with.I think I I'm very lucky to be among the few ones that are not smoking again.

Yes you read the last paragraph right,after I had concluded my second phase of IT(Industrial Training) in school,my Dad ask me to come home after a severe illness for treatment before my final year (500 level).

Langtang almost cost me my life after I started associating myself with bad friends who influence me into smoking and drinking alcohol.I could remember December 2024 (Christmas period to be specific )I was deep into that bad habit, meanwhile my parents were not aware of this.

Fast forward to January 2025,when I came to Jos at my big cousin brother's house (Bro Nanmwa).My elder brother Samuel who lives together with our big cousin brother sat me down one day and I was shocked to hear him said that rumours has it that they saw me smoking and drinking alcohol at a party back in langtang.Samuel told me if I will not quit smoking and drinking,then he will seize to be my brother for life 🥲🥲.

Honestly speaking Samuel my elder brother his the only man apart from my Dad that loves me so dearly and I couldn't imagine loosing him because of smoking and drinking habits I could stop immediately.That week I promised myself I would never smoke or drink again, because I love and cherish my elder brother so much.

Today,by the grace of God I have stopped smoking and drinking and have enrolled in baptism class.I want to be close to God,I want to take my life so serious so I can become somebody in the nearest future.

To every smoker out there,I want to advise you to quit smoking and drinking,not just because of your future,but also because of your health.Smoking and drinking of alcohol has caused more harm than good in our society today. I pray you find a reason to quit.

SAVING A SOUL

Today at around 9:30, immediately I entered the church for Sunday service,I turned on my data and login to my Whatsapp,I saw a post with a picture of a boy named Emmanuel,a 100level student from the department of Water Resources, Aquaculture and Fisheries Technology (WAFT),which happens to be the department I graduated from last year.Emannuel is a sickle cell,he was dying and needed two packs of blood from someone with A+ or O+ blood group,I felt broken immediately I saw his picture,this boy is innocent,his parents made the mistake already,but his suffering from this.
I message his younger brother who has been looking for a donor for the past few days,and he told me Emmanuel might die in the next few hours if he doesn't get the blood,I told him after service I will come over and donate.I wasn't comfortable with this decision,I immediately left for the hospital and told a member to help pass the information to my church secretary.
Luckily for us another blood donor came from Gidan Kwana our school permanent site immediately he heard the story from a sister of his,we donated the blood and Alhamdulilah Emmanuel is stable as we speak🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿.
I ask his brother to call his mum that I wanted to speak with her,she is indeed a good woman and reasonable,I told her to please look for transfer for these boys to be schooling close to home at Kaduna where they live.She prayed for me and wanted to give us money,I told her we didn't do this for money but for HUMANITY.she even asked me to ask people I know if Kaduna State University offers courses the children are currently studying in Minna

Today I learnt a lesson,that we should be grateful and always try to help people regardless of their cultural background, religion.The second donor his a Muslim but donated his blood,I wish all Nigerians can be like him, let's love each other and try to help regardless of our differences.Lucky Dube the legend said in his song,"we are different colours but one people".If I had stayed till we finish service and went to the hospital and find out that boy lost his life,I will never forgive myself,if claim you are a Christian and you can't save a person you don't even know

This evening I called my primary six teacher back in primary school,Adamu Idris Manarakis,one of the great Kinupe sons,he was grooming me to become a great poet,but after my Dad was shot in 2012,and we left Minna to langtang,my dreams died😭,I am a true definition of endurance, resilient and perseverance.
Today am a fish scientist, painter, comedian that is yet to be known 🤣,a business man that will be very successful very soon inshallah 🙏🏿🙏🏿
Indeed God has been faithful to me, despite the challenges am still facing in life,I believe one day my story will make the poor boy believe he can become rich
