The 1830 Military Victory

The most significant historical anchor for the Ilorin Durbar is the year 1830.

On an Eid morning that year, while the community was gathered in peace, the city was launched into a surprise attack by a combined force of the old Oyo Empire and Baruba warriors
The Emir and his cavalry responded swiftly, securing a decisive victory at a location known as Ita Kudimo This triumph safeguarded the sovereignty of Ilorin, and a grand horse-riding celebration was subsequently held to honor the courage of the warriors, marking the birth of the Durbar tradition in the city.
