Homily: WHO ARE THOSE THAT CAN PRAISE GOD? (Àwọn wo ló lè yin Ọlọ́run?)
Minister: Pastor A.S. Ọ̀jẹ̀táyọ̀ (District Apostle)
Text: Exodus 15:1 & 11

INTRODUCTION: The appointed Scripture reveals that God is the strength and Saviour of the Israelites. He made a way for their freedom and salvation and set their feet upon a solid rock. These mighty acts of God moved them to sing praises to Him. They reflected on the goodness of the Lord in the land of Egypt, the miracles at the Red Sea, and the many wonders He performed by His mighty hand.

Note: Only the living can praise the Lord (Isaiah 38:18–19).

✓From our mother's womb until this very day, we ought to give thanks to the Lord when we reflect on His goodness, because He has always been with us.
✓Looking at the Scriptures, the first recorded place where people sang praises to God is in Exodus chapter 15. Before this chapter, the Israelites mostly complained and failed to remember God's goodness or understand the importance of thanksgiving until they witnessed His wonders at the Red Sea.
✓We should always find reasons to thank God, not only when we experience extraordinary miracles.

Reasons Why We Praise God
✓We praise Him because He gives us victory over our enemies.
✓We praise Him for journey mercies every day.
✓We praise Him for answered prayers. It is not because we are righteous or holy, but because we have obtained mercy.
✓We praise Him because He brought us out of the miry clay and set our feet upon a solid rock.
✓The ability to see, walk, think, sleep, and wake up each morning are reasons to give thanks to God.
✓We praise Him because He walks with us through the valley of the shadow of death and grants us victory over our enemies.

NB: We should not be ungrateful. We depend on Him because He is able (Psalm 40:3; Isaiah 12:2).

Four Key Notes in Exodus 15
1.The Israelites praised God after reflecting deeply on His wondrous works (vs. 1–2).
2.Their song signified testimony and victory (vs. 4–5).
3.Their song was also a song of separation and consecration to the worship of God (vs. 11).
4.The Israelites sang a new song in their new land (vs. 20–21). They did not allow their praises to cease after the wonders at the Red Sea.

APPLICATION: (Psalm 116:12)
The more we give thanks, the more we experience the wonders of God in our lives, families, businesses, and all that concerns us. Prayer and praise (thanksgiving) move God to work mightily in our lives.

Happy Sunday, Brethren.
