*Impeachable offence’ – Reps member fumes over Pöör budget implementation*

The lawmaker representing Borno North Senatorial District, Mohammed Tahir Monguno, has described as an ‘impeachable offense’, failure to implement the capital budget.

Monguno said this on Monday at the Senate Committee on Finance on the state of the nation’s economy, where the Minister of Finance, Taiwo Oyedele, was responding to questions from the lawmakers.

He said, “Where are these revenues going to if the 2025 budget has not been implemented, and we have to roll over 70% of 2025 to 2026 with the promise that 30% will be implemented before March? Up to March, even 30% was not implemented.

“The National Assembly has to extend the lifespan of the budget up to September to allow government to implement just 30% component of 2025 budget.

“The issue of 2026 had not even arisen at all. So, don’t you think this is contradictory? Or where are these revenues going, to the extent that the budget is not being implemented?

“If the budget is not being implemented, what is the function of government? For example, security of lives and property of the people is the primacy of governance.

“All the security agencies that we have been interacting with, are reporting to us that they have received zero allocation in terms of their capital. Where are these monies going to?

“This is my question. Why is budget not implemented? Because it is a breach of the law, and it’s an impeachable offense.”

The lady who was with former military Head of State, Gen. Sani Abacha, when he suddenly died, said she didn’t kill him, claiming that he died on top of her during in*******se.

A retired security operative, Dennis Amachree, said the lady, an Igbo pharmacist, made the confession when he interrogated her over Abacha’s mysterious death, the Nation reported.

Amachree, who gave his own version of Abacha’s last moments, clarified that the former military ruler passed on around 4.05 am on June 8, 1998, at the A*o Villa, Abuja, in the presence of the lady during an intimate affair.

Abacha was Nigeria’s military ruler between November 1993 and July 1998 when he suddenly died at 54.

Given the manner of his death, there were speculations about what killed him and the circumstances of his death.

“The lady pharmacist’s account, on whom Abacha apparently had a coitus-induced cardiac arrest, remains the true position, and puts an end to the conspiracy theories and half-truths that have gone viral,” he stressed.

Amachree, who was the Assistant Director of Operations and Intelligence at the Lagos State SSS Command, at the time of Abacha’s death, emphasised that “any other narrative is an act of deceit and a disservice to our countrymen and women.”

He made the revelation in his 348-paged book, just released, titled: ‘DSS @40: My journey behind the shield.

The retired Assistant Director of Department of State Services (DSS) said after witnessing Abacha’s death, the lady-pharmacist immediately joined the next flight to Lagos.

‘My team located and brought her to my office. I interrogated her myself. The first thing she said to me was : ‘I did not kill him, he d!ed on top of me.’ After her detailed account, I called the Director in Abuja, and she was immediately flown back,” the author said.

*Fayose Takes REA Board Chair After Earlier Vowing to Reject Tinubu Appointment*

ABUJA, Nigeria, July 21 (African News Digest) – Former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose has taken up the chairmanship of the Board of the Rural Electrification Agency (REA), months after publicly stating that he would not accept a political appointment from President Bola Tinubu.

Fayose, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), had disclosed during an October 2025 appearance on Channels Television's Politics Today that President Tinubu had previously offered him an appointment, which he said he politely declined.

The former governor said at the time that, having served two terms as governor of Ekiti State, he had no plans to return to public office.

"At 65, I would rather stay at home and focus on other responsibilities. I have served my state well as a two-term governor and I am satisfied with my contributions," Fayose had said.

He also maintained that his personal relationship with Tinubu did not mean he had joined or supported the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), insisting that his positions on national issues were based on personal conviction rather than the pursuit of government appointments.

However, President Tinubu on Monday appointed Fayose as chairman of the REA board, in a wider set of appointments involving 26 individuals across 10 federal government agencies and commissions.

The appointments, announced by the President's Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, took immediate effect.

Fayose's new role has sparked public interest because of his earlier declaration that he would not accept an appointment under the Tinubu administration.

The development represents a notable shift from the position the former Ekiti governor publicly expressed less than a year ago, as he now takes on a leadership role in a federal agency under the administration he had previously indicated he would not serve.

Lateef Kayode Jakande spent four years as Governor of Lagos state and his legacy are enduring till today.
This is the man that built Lagos no other person.

Many years after his four-year administration ended, some Nigerians still believe that Lateef Jakande remains the best governor that Lagos ever had.

Alhaji Lateef Jakande lived in his own private house in Ilupeju area of Lagos while he was governor. He shunned official cars and protocol by living among the people, feeling and sharing their pa!ns, and driving his own private car, a Toyota Laurel jalopy he had bought several years before becoming Governor. The only flamboyant dress he ever wore was his famous “Buba” and “Soro”.

Some of his achievements in just four years as governor:

💥 Alhaji Lateef Jakande’s government built the current Lagos State Secretariat which houses all the state ministries as well as the popular round house hitherto occupied by all subsequent governors of the state.

💥 His government built the Lagos State House of Assembly complex.

💥 His government built Lagos State University

💥 His government built the Nigerian Institute of Journalism

💥 His government established General Hospital in all zones in the state as well as instituted 20 health centres within the state with assurance of free health care.

💥 His government established the Water Management Board and Waste Disposal Board on the 18th of August, 1980.

💥 His government constructed the Adiyan Water Works to increase water supply in the state to 18.16 million litres per day.
💥 His government modernized and expanded the Iju Water Works which was first commissioned in 1915. This increased daily capacity from 159 million to 204 million litres per day.

💥 His government purchased and commissioned the giant car crusher equipment. The equipment was designed specifically to crush derelict vehicles in Lagos State. It had the capacity to crush 45 vehicles per day.

💥 His government established Asphalt Plant for the Department of Public Works.

💥 His government established Electricity Board for Rural Electrification with provision of street lights.

💥 His government modernized, expanded and commissioned Onikan Stadium in 1982.

💥 His government established a singular school system and ensured genuine free education in Lagos State and the beneficiaries of this policy are in different positions of eminence in the country and around the world.

💥 His government raised the primary schools in Lagos State to 812 with 533,001 pupils (against 605 primary schools with 434,545 pupils he met in 1979) and secondary schools to 223 with 167,629 students (against 105 schools with 107,835 students in 1979).

💥 His government constructed 11, 729 classrooms with the maximum of 40 children per class between March and August 1980, by 1983, he had constructed over 22,000 classrooms.

💥 In July 1983, two commercial passenger boats christened “Baba Kekere and Itafaji” to run the Mile 2 – Marina (CMS) route via the lagoons were inaugurated by his government to mark the official launch of the Lagos State ferry services.
