**FG Diverts Lagos–Calabar Coastal Highway Through East–West Road**

The Federal Government has re-routed the Lagos–Calabar Coastal Highway through the existing East–West Road from Ondo into Edo State, Minister of Works David Umahi has said. He said President Tinubu ordered the diversion to avoid the swampy coastal terrain, adding that the East–West Road will be raised about two metres above flood level with concrete pavement.

Umahi insisted the project is not abandoned: Section One in Lagos is complete, Section Two is due next month, and work continues in Akwa Ibom and Cross River, with the road still terminating in Calabar. Critics, including Atiku Abubakar, are demanding transparency over the revised route and an alleged $20bn loan.

NIGERIA'S PETROL PRICE vs THE REST OF THE WORLD - LET'S TALK FACTS

Something doesn't add up.

How can countries with little or no crude oil be selling petrol cheaper than Nigeria.

Let's look at the facts:

1. WE HAVE THE OIL:
Nigeria holds the 2nd largest oil reserves in Africa (behind Libya) and the 11th largest in the WORLD. We are blessed.

2. THEY DON'T, BUT THEY SELL CHEAPER:
- Israel has little or no domestic crude oil. Its reserves are in MILLIONS of barrels, not billions.
- Ukraine's reserves are also in millions.
- Compare that to Nigeria, Egypt, Russia - we are talking BILLIONS of barrels.

3. THEY ARE AT WAR:
Israel, Ukraine, and Russia are countries actively at war. War increases the cost of everything, including fuel. Yet their pump price is still more affordable for their citizens than ours.

4. EVEN EGYPT:
Egypt is the 25th largest oil reserve holder in the world, far below Nigeria, yet they manage their pricing better for their people.

So the question is simple: If countries with NO oil and countries AT WAR can make fuel affordable...

Why can't Nigeria?

As H.E Donald Duke, former Governor of Cross River State rightly said, Nigeria can comfortably sell petrol to her citizens at N300 per litre.

We have the crude. We have the people. We have the market. What we lack is the will to put Nigerians first.

It is time to make life easier for the average Nigerian.

CROSS RIVER BEGINS SECOND PHASE OF MINI TRACTOR DISTRIBUTION

The Cross River State Government has invited previously shortlisted farmers’ cooperatives, registered farmers’ cooperatives and commodity associations to complete documentation for the second phase of its mini tractor distribution scheme to boost agricultural productivity.

Each tractor comes with five implements, including a planter, ridger, rotary tiller, plough and one-ton trailer bucket. Interested farmers can contact the Department of Agricultural Mechanization, Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation Development, or call 0703 968 9722 for details.

TRUMP QUESTIONS NOBEL PEACE PRIZE SNUB, CLAIMS TO HAVE SETTLED EIGHT WARS

Trump expressed surprise that neither he nor the United States received the prestigious award despite what he described as these diplomatic and security achievements. The 2026 Nobel Peace Prize was awarded to Navi Pillay, a South African jurist recognised for her work on human rights and international justice.

Education Sector Crackdown, C’River Shuts 20 More Schools

The Cross River State Government has shut down 20 more schools operating without the required Approval to Operate (ATO) in Calabar Municipality, Calabar South, Odukpani and Akamkpa LGAs.

The Commissioner for Education, Senator Stephen Odey, warned that affected schools must not reopen without official authorisation, adding that proprietors who violate the closure order would face sanctions.

The government says the exercise will extend to all 18 LGAs to enforce educational standards and ensure schools meet the requirements for operating in the state.

Police Arrest 29-Year-Old Man Over Alleged Abduction of 11-Year-Old Boy in Cross River

The Cross River State Police Command has arrested a 29-year-old man, Abashi John, over the alleged abduction of an 11-year-old boy in Edor Community, Ikom Local Government Area. According to police, the incident was reported on October 5, 2026, after the boy’s father raised the alarm over his disappearance.

The police said the child was later found in the suspect’s room with a head injury after the father and community members visited the residence. The suspect remains in custody as investigations continue, while the circumstances surrounding the injury are being investigated. The Commissioner of Police, CP Ajo Geoffrey Ordue, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to child protection and urged residents to report suspicious activities.

MC Okrika Warns Evidence Group Against Campaigning in Cross River Central

Cross River commentator Assam Michael Okongor, popularly known as MC Okrika, has warned the Evidence Group against taking its political mobilisation campaign to the Central Senatorial District, alleging that the area has been neglected by Governor Bassey Otu’s administration. In a video circulating on Facebook, he threatened to lead a rally against the group if it brought its activities to the district.

MC Okrika also questioned the status of a reported ₦600 million youth grant announced by Commissioner Oden Ewa, alleging that promised funds remain outstanding.
