A young woodcutter was eager to prove himself. On his first day, he cut down 20 trees. His master praised him. The next day, he worked even harder but only managed 15 trees. On the third day, despite putting in all his strength, he cut just 10.

Confused and discouraged, he asked his master, “Why am I getting weaker when I’m working harder?”

The master looked at his axe and asked, “When last did you sharpen it?”

The woodcutter replied, “I didn’t have time. I was too busy cutting trees.”

The master smiled and said, “An unsharpened axe can never match a sharpened one, no matter how hard it’s swung.”

Many people are busy every day, yet they are not growing. They mistake activity for progress. The truth is, your greatest investment is not just in working harder—it’s in becoming better.
