The Price of Gold – Season 2: The First Deal
The luxury SUV sped through the glittering streets of the city. Daniel sat quietly in the back seat, his heart pounding. He had no idea where he was going, but he knew one thing—he had nothing left to lose.
After nearly thirty minutes, the vehicle stopped in front of a magnificent mansion surrounded by high walls and armed security guards.
"Welcome," the man said. "My name is Mr. Victor."
Daniel stepped out, amazed. The house looked like a palace.
Inside, servants moved around silently while expensive paintings decorated the walls. Daniel had never seen such wealth.
Mr. Victor offered him food.
"Eat first. A hungry man cannot think clearly."
Daniel didn't hesitate. He ate until he could barely move.
When he finished, Mr. Victor leaned back in his chair.
"You said you'll do anything to become rich. Did you mean it?"
Daniel nodded.
"Yes, sir."
Mr. Victor smiled.
"Good. Tomorrow you'll do a simple job. Deliver a package. Don't open it. Don't ask questions. Bring me the confirmation, and you'll earn more money in one day than you've ever seen."
The next morning, Daniel received a small black bag and an address.
His hands trembled as he carried it across the city. Every police officer he saw made him nervous.
When he reached the destination, a man in dark sunglasses collected the bag without saying a word. He handed Daniel another envelope.
Daniel returned to the mansion.
Mr. Victor opened the envelope, smiled, and placed a thick bundle of cash on the table.
"This is yours."
Daniel stared in disbelief.
"So much... for one delivery?"
"It's only the beginning," Mr. Victor replied.
For the first time since leaving his village, Daniel smiled. He rented a small room, bought new clothes, and even sent money home.
His mother called him, overjoyed.
"My son! God has answered our prayers."
Daniel forced a smile.
"Yes, Mama. Everything is fine."
But it wasn't.
Late that night, he couldn't stop thinking about the package. What had been inside it? Why did everyone involved seem so secretive?
The next morning, he opened his phone and saw breaking news.
"Police investigate a major drug trafficking network operating across the city."
His heart skipped a beat.
Could he have been part of it?
Before he could think any further, his phone rang.
It was Mr. Victor.
"I have another job for you," he said calmly. "This one pays five times more."
Daniel looked at the money on his table... then at the news on his phone.
He had to make a choice.
Would he walk away while he still could... or step deeper into a world from which few ever returned?
To be continued...
