WHEN OKPANAM STANDS TOGETHER: A TRIBUTE TO UNITY, LEADERSHIP AND COMMUNITY SPIRIT

On Friday, 21st August 2026, Okpanam once again demonstrated the strength of its communal spirit as the town received friends, political associates, community leaders and well-wishers who gathered to stand with Hon. Simeon Okonkwo and his family during the funeral rites of his beloved wife, Late Ezinne Agnes Uchechukwuka Okonkwo.

Although the occasion was born out of grief, the presence of distinguished personalities and the people of Okpanam transformed the gathering into a powerful expression of solidarity, friendship and community unity.

At the centre of this display of togetherness was Hon. Chief Patrick Ukah, the Akatakpo Enyi of Okpanam, whose leadership continues to encourage a culture of participation, compassion and responsibility within the community. His presence, alongside the people he leads, reflected a leadership that understands that the strength of a community is most visible when its people stand with one another in difficult moments.

The turnout of members of APC Ward 9, Okpanam/Ugbolu, was particularly noteworthy. Under the leadership and guidance of the Akatakpo Enyi of Okpanam, Hon. Chief Patrick Ukah, Ward 9 demonstrated that political organisation can also serve as a platform for community solidarity. Their presence was not merely political; it was a statement that Okpanam cares, Okpanam remembers, and Okpanam stands with its own.

The gathering also brought together notable personalities, including Hon. Frank Esenwah, Member representing Oshimili North Constituency in Delta State House of Assembly Assembly DTHA, , Hon. Chief Austin Obidi, Hon. Innocent Uchibuolu and other friends and associates of Hon. Simeon Okonkwo. Their presence provided another reminder that relationships built over the years can rise above political differences, especially when humanity calls.

For Okpanam, this was a moment worth remembering—not because of politics, but because of people. It showed the beauty of a community where leadership, friendship and compassion can converge for a common purpose.

The Akatakpo Enyi of Okpanam, Hon. Chief Patrick Ukah, through his presence and the mobilisation of the people of Ward 9, continues to exemplify the importance of responsible leadership that brings people closer, strengthens community bonds and promotes the collective interest of Okpanam.

"The Hidden Nature of Hamsters: Adorable Pets with a Wild Side"

Many people see hamsters as cute and harmless pets, often thinking they’re perfect companions for kids. However, there’s more to these small, fluffy creatures than meets the eye.

When you bring a hamster home, you might think you’re getting a friendly pet, but in reality, you might be welcoming a feisty little rival.

Hamsters may look like adorable toys, but they have strong survival instincts that can be quite surprising. They can be incredibly territorial. Just like otters, they defend their space fiercely. If one hamster enters another’s territory, it can lead to serious fights, even life-threatening ones. They take their territory seriously, and losing a fight isn't uncommon for them.

These little guys have a fast metabolism, which means they're always searching for food. They’ve been known to raid bird nests for seeds and even steal food from one another.

While theft can happen among animals, the stakes can be higher with hamsters. If they can’t find food, they might turn to a drastic solution: eating another hamster.

Hamsters are naturally solitary creatures. If too many are crammed into one cage, it can turn into a dangerous situation. They might end up fighting, and in extreme cases, one might eat the other.

You'd think that a mother hamster would protect her young. But if a female hamster gives birth to pups, her instincts can take a shocking turn. If she feels stressed or threatened, or if she thinks a pup isn’t healthy, she might eat her own babies. It’s a harsh reality, but it’s a common behavior among hamsters, often seen as a way for them to manage limited resources or stress.

Putting two hamsters together in a cage is like setting the stage for a battle. They might be siblings or long-time friends, but when it comes to territory, the outcome can be grim. One hamster may attack the other, no matter their prior relationship.

And here's a quirky fact: if given the choice between water and alcohol, hamsters will always choose alcohol. It’s just part of their nature!

In summary, while hamsters can be cute and fun pets, they also have a wild side that can surprise unsuspecting owners. It’s important to understand their behavior and needs to ensure a happy (and safe) home for everyone involved.

A Journey of Perseverance: Overcoming the Challenges of Entrepreneurship

In the heart of a bustling city, I opened the doors to my dream: a cozy little café named “Brewed Awakening.” It was more than just a place to grab coffee; I envisioned it as a community hub where friends would gather, ideas would flourish, and creativity would soar.

The aroma of freshly brewed coffee danced in the air, and the walls were adorned with local art, filling the space with warmth and charm.

However, as any entrepreneur will tell you, the journey of owning a business is not all lattes and sweet pastries.

One of the most significant challenges I faced came just six months after opening. It was the holiday season, the time of year when I expected to see sales soar.

Instead, I received a call from my coffee bean supplier informing me of a substantial price increase due to a global shortage.

In that moment, I felt the weight of the world on my shoulders, compounded by the expectation of a bustling business that year.

With costs skyrocketing, I had to make a difficult decision raise my prices, which could deter my loyal customers, or find a way to absorb the costs and risk my profit margins.

There was a whirlwind of emotions: fear, stress, and self-doubt. Would my dream crumble because of this one setback?

In the days that followed, rather than succumbing to despair, I chose to face the challenge head-on. I reached out to my community, asking for their input and support.

I organized a “Community Coffee Tasting” event, inviting regulars and newcomers alike to sample different blends and vote on what they loved the most.

This not only allowed me to gauge preferences but also forged deeper connections with my customers, who felt invested in the café.

Simultaneously, I took the opportunity to explore skill training workshops focused on business management and cost-effective sourcing.

I learned about local roasters who were sustainable and offered a more competitive price. By pivoting my supplier relationship and adjusting my menu based on customer feedback, I managed to create a richer experience while maintaining reasonable prices.

The hard work and resilience paid off. The coffee tasting event was a resounding success, drawing the local community together in support of my business. Not only did I emerge from the crisis stronger, but I also gained valuable insights that transformed Brewed Awakening into an even better café.

I learned the art of adaptability and the importance of keeping an ear to the ground for both customer needs and market trends.

Owning a business has its challenges, but each hurdle has taught me invaluable lessons that I carry forward.

These experiences remind me of the incredible advantages that entrepreneurship brings: the freedom to create, the ability to connect with others, and the joy of turning passion into action.

I encourage everyone who dreams of starting their own business: invest in your skills and training. Knowledge is a powerful tool that will help you navigate challenges with confidence. Mario Was Born from a Rent Dispute

A long time ago, in 1981, there was a company called Nintendo. They were trying really hard to get popular in America, but it wasn’t working very well. One day, something funny happened that changed everything.

Mario Segale was Nintendo's landlord, and he was not happy. He walked into a meeting and demanded that they pay their overdue rent. The people at Nintendo felt embarrassed and nervous because they couldn’t even pay their bills.

But instead of feeling sad, something amazing happened! The president of Nintendo, Minoru Arakawa, and his team started to think. They were already working on a new arcade game called Donkey Kong, but their main character didn’t have a real name. They were just calling him “Jumpman.”

Since their landlord, Mario, had such a loud and strong personality, the team decided to name their hero after him. They thought it was a fun idea! And that is how Mario was born.

When Donkey Kong came out, it became super popular! Kids and adults wanted to play it everywhere, and Nintendo sold about 60,000 arcade machines. They made around $100 million! All of this happened because of that funny moment when their landlord got mad.

So, next time you play a Mario game, remember that his name came from a landlord who was just trying to collect rent. Sometimes, amazing things can come from unexpected moments!
