Happy new month

08/04/2026

Nduka and his wife had long endured the heartache of barrenness, yearning for a child. After years of waiting, they finally received the joyous news that their wife had given birth to twins. Nduka was at his phone accessories stall when the announcement came. His colleagues, overjoyed for him, rushed to celebrate with dancing and laughter.
As tradition demanded, they showered Nduka with celebratory powder. In the midst of the joyful chaos, a friend accidentally poured the powder into Nduka's eyes, causing him intense discomfort. Despite the excitement surrounding him, this incident left Nduka unable to see, and tragically, he never got to lay eyes on the precious twins his wife had welcomed into the world.
Although this may seem like mere fiction, I find beauty in being a writer of tragedy.

Penultimate Easter

Upon the cross where sacrifice was made,
Lies the burden of sins yet to be paid.
In solemn hours when darkness falls,
Hope still glimmers with redemption’s call.
In retrospection, a promise gleams
On Good Friday, salvation streams.
In the manifestation of God’s true Word,
The gospel spreads to the whole world.

Consistency is why the Agama lizard kept nodding its head, and everyone thought all was well with it.
Each nod looked like agreement… like confidence… like strength.
But in truth, the Agama was battling within.
No one noticed.
Because he kept nodding.
Kept showing up.
Kept pretending.
Every question thrown at him was met with a familiar bob of the head
a silent gesture of deceit, masking his pain and fatigue.
No one paused to ask what lay beneath the surface.
No one asked if the nod was a cry or a cover.
Days later, the Agama lizard died of an ailment not because he was weak,
But because he was too strong to be vulnerable.
Sometimes, the strongest smiles hide the deepest battles.
Check on your “always okay” friends
They might be nodding themselves into silence.

Akirika, the chief priest, entered the royal courtyard with the slow, deliberate swagger of one burdened by spiritual weight, his small round belly pushed forward as he moved, and his face wore a deep frown, reflecting his displeasure over Ujadike’s stubborn decision.
Behind him trotted a young boy, carrying his leather medicine bag and balancing a small clay pot that puffed out coils of white smoke atop his head.
Akirika's appearance was striking. He wore smoked raffia that hung from his waist to his knees, white chalk circled one of his eye sockets, and around his head was a thin leather band holding a vulture’s feather that pointed backward like a watchful eye. In his left hand, he gripped a long iron staff that gave a rattling tremble each time its pointed tip struck the ground.

Ujadike is renowned as the demigod in sword fighting, his prowess strikes fear in the entire clan and even beyond for no one challenges him, and lives to tell the story. The turf was thickly covered with fine sand, its pale grains shifting softly underfoot. Above, towering shade of big cherry fruit trees stretched wide, with their branches and leaves providing shelter over the communal square. This sacred ground was the arena where warriors from neighboring clans met to challenge one another for supremacy in the ancient art of swordplay.
At the end of every contest, the winner was hailed with thunderous cheers from the crowd, while the loser accepted his fate with humility. At the center of the square, the two champions, Ujadike and Aguoha, strode deliberately onto the sand, each embodying the weight of generations behind them.
The arena was thick with tension, almost palpable, as if the earth itself held its breath.
The crowd fell into a hush, eyes locked on the pair as the clash of titans was about to begin.
