In the shadowed coastal lands of 16th-century Morocco, during the fierce Wattasid era when Portuguese forces gripped ports like El Jadida and Azemmour, a woman of breathtaking beauty lived near the rivers—her name whispered as Aicha, daughter of a respected Souss tribe notable, with fair skin, jet-black almond eyes, blood-red lips, and hair cascading to her hips like midnight silk.

Engaged to a brave Moroccan captain, she watched invaders raid her homeland, slaughtering kin and claiming territory. Grief ignited fury. Rather than flee, Aicha turned her allure into a weapon. She ventured to the waters where Portuguese soldiers lingered—lonely sentries drawn to the cool shade and the promise of respite.

With a haunting song or a lingering glance, she beckoned them closer, her voice like jasmine on the wind. Enchanted, they followed her into hidden valleys, riverbanks, and swamps. There, Moroccan fighters—her true allies—waited in ambush. One by one, the invaders vanished, their screams swallowed by the night, their bodies claimed by the currents.

Word spread among the Portuguese: a deadly seductress haunted the waters, luring men to madness and death. Survivors babbled of her irresistible beauty, then madness overtaking them. In time, the tales twisted. The heroic resistance fighter became a vengeful jinn, half-woman, half-hooved beast—camel or goat legs hidden beneath flowing robes. She no longer fought for her people; she punished all men for lust and betrayal, possessing minds, driving them insane, or drowning them in the very rivers she once patrolled.

Centuries later, in northern Morocco's Rif and Tangier regions, elders still warn: "Stay away from the water at dusk, or Aicha Kandicha will call your name." Protective charms of salt, iron, or Quranic verses are carried against her. What began as a real woman's courageous defiance against colonial invaders morphed into one of North Africa's most enduring supernatural legends—a blend of historical resistance, moral caution, and the eternal fear of untamed feminine power.

Even today, some claim real encounters: men left obsessed, whispering her name forever.

Today, Kenyan authorities condemned the actions of a Russian man accused of filming his sexual encounters with Kenyan women without their consent and sharing the videos online. This comes after Ghanaian officials said they are looking to seek extradition of the same man, described as self-styled “pick-up artist” in his 30s, allegedly filmed his interactions with women and posted the footage online. In Ghana, Technology Minister Sam George said he had summoned the Russian ambassador in Accra to seek Moscow’s cooperation in pursuing justice for the victims. Under Ghana’s Cybersecurity Act 2020, publishing explicit images without consent can carry a prison sentence of up to 25 years.

In the ancient days when the sky still whispered secrets to the earth, a terrible famine gripped the land. The animals hungered, their bellies empty as dried riverbeds. Then came an invitation from the gods above: a grand feast in the heavens, reserved for those who could fly.

**Mbe** the tortoise, slow and earthbound, watched the birds preen their wings with envy. His shell gleamed smooth and perfect back then, a mirror of black ambition. Cunning as moonlight on water, he approached them.

"My friends," he pleaded, "lend me feathers. Let me join you. We are all kin under the same moon."

Moved by his words—or perhaps by pity—the birds each offered one bright plume. With skillful paws, Mbe wove them into wings and rose into the blue, soaring beside eagles and parrots.

Before they reached the celestial gates, Mbe proposed a game. "In heaven, they name their guests anew," he said. "Let me choose yours." He gave each bird a fine title, but for himself he secretly claimed the most dangerous: **"All of You."**

The feast was splendor itself—mountains of pounded yam, rivers of palm wine, fruits that glowed like stars. The sky hosts raised their voices: "This bounty is for **All of You**!"

Mbe stepped forward with a sly grin. "That is my name!" he declared, and he devoured everything. He stuffed himself until his shell strained, leaving the birds with nothing but rage and empty beaks.

Furious, the birds tore back their feathers one by one and abandoned him in the clouds. Stranded, Mbe begged for help. Only one bird—some say the vulture—agreed, but midway down, weary of the greedy weight, it released him.

Mbe plummeted like a stone from the gods' anger.

He struck the hard earth with a thunderous **CRACK!** His once-flawless shell shattered into jagged pieces, scattering like broken promises across the compound.

His wife wept and summoned the greatest healer in the village. With patience and herbs, the pieces were gathered and glued, but never perfectly. The seams remained, rough and uneven, a map of betrayal etched forever.

And so, to this day, every tortoise carries the cracks of Mbe's greed—a quiet warning whispered through cracked shells: cunning may lift you high, but unchecked desire will always bring you crashing down.

The United States has frozen the assets of eight Nigerians over alleged links to Boko Haram and the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL). The sanctions block any property or financial interests the individuals hold within US jurisdiction and prohibit Americans from engaging in transactions with them. Among those named is Salih Yusuf Adamu, who was convicted in the United Arab Emirates in 2022 for helping to establish a Boko Haram fundraising cell. Also sanctioned are Abu Abdullah ibn Umar Al-Barnawi, known as Ba Idrisa, and several members of the Al-Barnawi family, reportedly associated with Boko Haram’s leadership. Nnamdi Orson Benson was separately designated under cybercrime sanctions for alleged online criminal activity.

Today's African Folklore is the story of Anansi and the Pot of Wisdom from West African- Ghana Ashanti tale.

Anansi the spider (Kwaku Ananse) thought he was the smartest in the world. He collected all the wisdom in existence and hid it in a pot, planning to keep it high in a tree where no one could reach it. He tied the pot to his belly to climb, but his son pointed out it would be easier on his back. Anansi got angry, threw the pot down in frustration—and it smashed, scattering wisdom everywhere. That's why everyone has a little bit of wisdom now.

Moral: Wisdom is meant to be shared, not hoarded. Greed and pride can make even the cleverest person lose everything
