Nasarawa’s recently commissioned lithium-processing facility has a reported capacity of 6,000 metric tonnes per day. According to the operating company, it has already created more than 1,000 direct jobs and 2,000 indirect jobs—demonstrating the employment and industrial potential of processing minerals locally.

But one facility should represent the beginning, not the limit, of Nasarawa’s ambition.

Through the Energy and Mineral Resources pillar of his HEARTS Agenda, Senator Ahmed Aliyu Wadada is proposing to build upon the state’s emerging industrial foundation by connecting mineral development with energy, local processing, investment, skills and employment.

The proposition is straightforward:

Nasarawa must not merely extract its minerals.

It must process them, create industries around them and retain more jobs, businesses and revenue within the state.
