_“As the earth loses, Heaven gains” – Church bids farewell to matriarch described as ‘mother of encouragement’_
The Apostolic Church Nigeria, Aba Field, today gathered at Umuomaghi-Ukwu Nsulu, Isialangwa North LGA, Abia State, for the burial of DEACONESS COMFORT AHUNNA IHUOMA, wife of the Deputy Field Superintendent, Apostle Jonathan Ochonma Ihuoma. The solemn service, held on Friday, June 5, 2026, was themed _“A Graduation to Glory”_ in reference to her passing into eternal rest.
*Funeral Service and Message of Hope*
Delivering the sermon titled _“Hope Beyond the Grave”_ from 1 Thessalonians 4:13–18, Apostle Increase Onyekachi Nna reminded mourners of the Christian assurance of resurrection for those who die in Christ. The message emphasized hope over grief, framing Deaconess Ihuoma’s death not as a loss, but as a transition “from the college of this earth into her place of comfort with the Lord.”
*Dignitaries in Attendance*
The burial ceremony was conducted under the auspices of The Apostolic Church Nigeria, Aba Field, and witnessed a large turnout of clergy and dignitaries. Present were the Field Superintendent and his wife, Apostle Dr & Deaconess S.O. Nelson; Aba Field General Secretary, Apostle CND Iheanacho; Apostle B.C. Amalaha, PhD; Apostle O.N. Okoro; Rev Dr Chijioke Nwosu; Assemblies of God Church Ngwa District Superintendent, Ven. Prof & Dr Mrs Udo Obioma; Elder Prof Okamgba; Doctor Akunne; and other church leaders and members.
*Life and Legacy*
Described as “a mother to many beyond her biological children,” Deaconess Ihuoma was eulogized for her quiet strength, hospitality, and unwavering support for her husband’s ministry. Testimonies from church members, including _*Deaconess Theresa Amaogu, wife of the late Apostle S.O.B. Amaogu, the pioneer Field Superintendents of The Apostolic Church Nigeria, Aba Field”*_, highlighted her role as a source of encouragement, “offering faith to the faithless and hope to the hopeless.”
Her life was characterized by godly womanhood, humility, and service to the body of Christ within Aba Field. Psalm 116:15, “Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of his saints,” was repeatedly referenced during tributes.
*Interment*
Deaconess Comfort Ahunna Ihuoma was laid to rest at her husband’s compound in Umuomaghi-Ukwu Nsulu, Isialangwa North LGA, Abia State.
*Survivors*
She is survived by her husband, Apostle Jonathan Ochonma Ihuoma, Deputy Field Superintendent, TACN Aba Field; her children, grandchildren, and a large number of spiritual sons and daughters across The Apostolic Church Nigeria.
