Why cars Catch Fire after Accident.

Cars catch fire after accidents when fuel, sparks, and heat come together. During a crash, the fuel tank or fuel lines can rupture, and leaking fuel can ignite from sparks caused by broken wires, metal-on-metal impact, or a hot exhaust system.

This is what happened on Friday 1 May 2026 on the B1 highway near Otjiwarongo. A Ministry of Health and Social Services minibus going to fetch patients from Windhoek collided with a truck after reportedly hitting a kudu. The minibus caught fire immediately. All 11 people inside died at the scene.

Let’s remember to drive carefully and watch for wildlife on our roads, especially early in the morning. Our thoughts are with the families of those who lost their lives.
