Bonobo stars on the cover of Mixmag.
Bonobo has never stayed still as a musician, constantly evolving his approach to sound and performance across 26 years of acclaimed album cycles and tours. Now with his eighth album ‘Distance In Static’ being billed as “perhaps his last record in the traditional sense”, all signs indicate there’ll be a new version of Bonobo coming out the other side.
If this is his swansong, it’s a hell of a way to go out. There’s the solo belters fans know and love, and a stacked and varied roster of collaborators who take his sound in disparate directions, with that unmistakable Bonobo deft touch at the core. An expanded live show with a bigger visual element is also in the works, with a full bi-coastal run of US gigs coming up to close out the year.
At this juncture of Bonobo’s career, Manu Ekanayake meets the Brighton-hailing artist, real name Simon Green, to discuss the album, why he feels like he’s got more to offer as a DJ, and weigh up what comes next.
