What is MARIMO?
MARIMO (Aegagropila linnaei), also known as Lake Ball, or Moss Balls in English, is a species of filamentous green algae found in a number of lakes in the northern hemisphere. A Marimo is a rare growth form of the species where the algae grow into large green balls with a velvety appearance. Colonies of such balls are found in Hokkaido, in the north of Japan.
Despite its appearance, a Marimo is not a solid body; in fact, the sphere itself is composed of countless individual strands of algae, and we, as a company, emulate this as we work in unison towards a common goal, combining forces and providing mutual support.
We also model this concept in how we approach our business: together, we strive to reflect the life of a Marimo, growing steadily over the years and drawing our energy from the communities we work in, just as a Marimo soaks up the sunshine.
This is the inspiration which lies behind our name.
