When love, dreams, and reality come into conflict, do we still have the courage to stay true to our hearts?
Zhu Yingtai’s pursuit of freedom and the right to choose, and Liang Shanbo’s devotion to sincere love, mirror the struggles we face today — family expectations, social pressure, and emotional loneliness.
The emotions we often leave unspoken — the tenderness of youth, the regret of missed chances, the breaking point after suppression, and the spiritual freedom symbolised by “becoming butterflies” — may all find their answer within this production.
Many people say Johor Bahru is a “cultural desert”, where art is difficult to promote and theatre is not always easy to bring closer to the public.
But we believe culture is not something we wait for. It is created, again and again.
