More than 1,000 years ago, in the heart of the Yucatán Peninsula, a powerful Maya city rose from the jungle — Chichén Itzá. 🌿🏛️
Built between the 7th and 12th centuries, this ancient city became one of the greatest political, economic, and religious centers of the Maya civilization. At its center stands the iconic pyramid known as El Castillo (Temple of Kukulcán), a masterpiece of mathematics, astronomy, and architecture.
The pyramid has 365 steps — one for each day of the year. During the spring and autumn equinox, the sunlight creates the illusion of a serpent descending the stairs, symbolizing the feathered serpent god Kukulcán. 🐍☀️
But Chichén Itzá was more than just a pyramid. It was home to one of the largest ball courts in Mesoamerica, sacred cenotes used for rituals, and grand temples that reflect the brilliance of Maya engineering.
