International Women's Day Concert - Sharon Katz & The Peace Train featuring Wendy Quick (Vocals), Lynn Goetting (bass) and Katsica Mayoral (percussion).
South African guitarist and singer, music therapist and humanitarian Sharon Katz, was born in Nelson Mandela Bay / Port Elizabeth during the Apartheid era and began her anti-Apartheid activism as a teenager. In the decades since, she has used her music for social activism around the world, was recorded by Sting, performed for Nelson Mandela, and received the Phil Ochs “Music for Political and Social Change” award. In 2008 Sharon was joined by singer and community activist, Wendy Quick, from Philadelphia. The two have worked on stage and in communities around the world, sharing The Peace Train’s message of unity. Sharon’s brand of global music is infused with African guitar riffs, rhythms and harmonies and she and Wendy Quick are known for getting audiences up on their feet dancing.
Sharon performed with the legendary South African singer Miriam Makeba and she was featured on Sting’s Carnival! album with Elton John, Tina Turner, Annie Lennox, Ruben Blades, and Pavarotti. Grammy award winners Ladysmith Black Mambazo also joined Sharon on The Peace Train. Several of Sharon’s albums have featured on the Grammy ballot for Best Global Music including Imbizo, Side-By-Side, We Can Be The Change and For You, the most recent album release of August 2023
