Título: La dama del armiño
Autor: Alonso Sánchez Coello
Fecha: 1577-1579
Técnica: Óleo sobre lienzo
Dimensiones: 63 × 50 cm

Henry Farrer, born in England, was the sibling of Thomas C. Farrer, a prominent figure responsible for founding the Society for the Advancement of Truth in Art, a representative of the Pre-Raphaelite movement in the United States. In contrast to his brother, who received formal drawing instruction from John Ruskin in London, Henry likely pursued a self-taught path. Starting in the early 1860s, he dedicated himself to creating meticulously detailed still lifes and landscapes in watercolor.

• Nikolaos Cheimonas - Sailing (1927) Oil on Canvas 56x48 cm.

- Nikolaos Cheimonas was a painter and art teacher of Greek ancestry, born in the Russian Empire. He painted landscapes, which at the beginning of his career were mostly views of southern Russia and the Crimea. He was interested in lighting effects, clouds, and the sea. Over the years, his works became more expressionistic. After the revolution of 1917 he fled to Greece where he was trying to recover from the horrors he had experienced in Russia. At first, he lived on the famous Mount Parnassus, along with the shepherds. Parnassus inspired a series of paintings depicting "non-tourist" Hellas. During the 1920s he traveled around the country, creating a series of paintings of the Peloponnese, Crete, Santorini and Lefkada.

-Frederick Carl Frieseke was an American Impressionist painter who spent most of his life as an expatriate in France. An influential member of the Giverny art colony, his paintings often concentrated on various effects of dappled sunlight. His paintings of voluptuous full-bodied women, many painted at his country home in Giverny, France, recall the work of Pierre Auguste Renoir.
-This painting clearly exemplifies Frieseke's method, which he succinctly explained to American painter and writer, Clara MacChesney: "If you are looking at a mass of flowers in the sunlight out of doors you see a sparkle of spots of different colors-then paint them that way." It is a pure Impressionism, only created nearly 40 years after the original French Impressionism.

-Julia Margaret Cameron was a British photographer who is considered one of the most important portraitists of the 19th century. She is known for her soft-focus close-ups of famous Victorian men and women; for illustrative images depicting characters from mythology, Christianity, and literature; and for sensitive portraits of men, women, and children.

-Toward the end of August 1874, Alfred, Lord Tennyson suggested to Cameron that she attempt a photographic illustration of his Idylls of the King (1872), a collection of poetry he had written over a period of nearly 40 years. Her response was typically enthusiastic: “Now you know, Alfred, that I know that it is immortality to me to be bound up with you.” The enormous production costs and labor involved in such a venture were no deterrent—Tennyson was the finest poet in the land, and Cameron, by association, hoped for both financial gain and further validation of her status as an artist. She was determined to demonstrate that photography was the equal any other form of book illustration.

At some point in his artistic career around the 1890s, James McNeill Whistler became obsessed with portraying the female form clad in diaphanous drapery. Inspired by Greek sculpture and Japanese prints, he developed this theme in all the media in which he worked, including transfer lithography, oil, pastel, and watercolor. The artist usually provided garments for his models, often classical gossamer gowns with high waists and crossed bodices paired with brightly colored kerchiefs. Most of all Whistler was looking for a perfect pose of his models; he sometimes asked them to dance about his studio until he caught the pose.
