At least 11 people were killed and around 12 injured after gunmen opened fire on a crowd at a football pitch in Salamanca, central Mexico. Families were socialising after a local match when attackers arrived in several vehicles and shot indiscriminately. Among the victims were a woman and a child. Authorities are investigating the motive. The attack comes amid rising gang violence in Guanajuato, Mexico’s deadliest state last year, linked to fuel theft, drug trafficking, and extortion.
