This is the day Enoch Kalapino Zonyera Zambuzi takes his place on the throne as iNkosi Kachindamoto VIII, completing a succession journey that began with his government installation at Dedza Stadium in August.

But here, amid the pomp and ceremony of the Kachindamoto royal kraal, it is tradition that takes centre stage. Presided over by Ngwenyama iNkosi YamaKhosi Gomani V, Saturday's coronation marks the formal beginning of Zonyera's reign under Maseko Ngoni custom.

For the people gathered at Mtakataka, it is a moment of celebration. For the Kachindamoto royal house, it is a moment of continuity. And for Zonyera, it is the beginning of a new chapter.

Over the weekend, led by our Ngwenyama, iNkosi ya Makhosi Gomani V, we joined our Catholic brothers and sisters at Nzama in to celebrate 125 years of the Church’s presence in .

For the Maseko Ngoni, this was a celebration of our history of welcoming the Catholic Church to Malawi. This is our enduring relationship between faith, culture and community, and a reminder that Church and culture do not stand in opposition.

Christ does not hate our cultures. He enters into them, embraces what is good, heals what is broken, and makes them whole in Himself.

The Catholic Church first established its presence in Malawi at Nzama, Ntcheu, from where its mission grew and reached communities across the country. After 125 years, we celebrate this history and the many ways in which the Gospel has uplifted lives and become part of the life and story of Malawi.

As Maseko Ngoni, we are proud of a faith that does not require us to abandon our cultural identity, but calls us to bring the richness of who we are into our life in Christ.

May this enduring relationship between Church, culture and community continue to bear fruit for generations to come.

1901. Nzama, Ntcheu, .

Two sets of warriors, each with their own battles to fight and “enemies” to conquer, meet for the first time.
Not to fight each other.
But to collaborate.

Guided by the spirit of Ubuntu, they choose to stand side by side
;for change, for growth and for the future.

125 years later, the story continues. uMhlangano happens.

On Saturday, the Catholic Church and its Maseko Ngoni hosts returned to where that journey began, at Nzama’s St Mary’s Parish, to celebrate 125 years of the Catholic Church in Malawi; and the fruits of its growth and influence across the region.

From a meeting of two warriors to a legacy spanning generations.

What a splendid celebration of faith, friendship and shared history!
