LUANAR STUDENT NAMED FINALIST AT TICON AFRICA EXCELLENCE AWARDS

A third year Food and Nutrition Science student at the Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (LUANAR), Aubrey Kachinjika, has been recognised as a finalist at the TICON Africa Excellence Awards 2026 in Livingstone, Zambia, for his E-Flood Innovation.

Speaking with BUNDA EYE, Kachinjika said the recognition is an honour and opportunity to represent Malawi and LUANAR on a continental stage.

"Although I was unable to attend the conference physically due to challenges in mobilising sufficient funds in time, the recognition remains a significant milestone for the Innovation and it's potential to contribute to disaster preparedness across Malawi and later the whole Africa" he added.

Kachinjika has previously represented Malawi in various technology and innovation programmes and is the Founder and CEO of Resilient Africa Technologies Limited, through which he is developing technology based solutions aimed at improving early warning systems, help vulnerable communities prepare for floods and lightning related disasters and strengthening disaster resilience.

Kachinjika is also a Youth Envoy of Malawi under ITU-Generation Connect Youth Envoys Program (2026-2030) in Switzerland.
