From Awareness to Action: My Transformational Leadership Journey with LCA

As my leadership journey through the Leading Change - Africa program draws to a close, I am filled with gratitude and excitement. What started as a vague idea of leadership has transformed into a clear understanding of purpose-driven leadership. This inspired me and made me question how I could lead with integrity in my own life. Through this program, I discovered that true leaders align their values with actions and empower others around them.

This program also pushed me to look inward and understand myself better. I explored my personality type and underlying beliefs (the iceberg beneath my actions) to understand what truly motivates me. Taking an emotional intelligence assessment was eye-opening. I realised how much power there is in understanding my feelings and others’ emotions. I learned to recognise my emotional triggers and use that awareness to communicate more empathetically. These self-awareness lessons have given me the confidence to lead authentically.

I also learned that integrity and courage are at the heart of ethical leadership. We discussed real-life scenarios where doing the right thing meant standing up to pressure or admitting mistakes, and I learned that true courage often comes from vulnerability. One of the most impactful lessons was about maintaining honesty and fairness even when it’s hard. This has motivated me to always act with transparency and adaptability, turning challenges into opportunities to grow stronger.

Curiosity and inclusivity became guiding principles for me in this journey. I now see curiosity as the fuel for innovation — instead of fearing the unknown, I ask questions and seek new perspectives. The program challenged me to confront my own biases and to practice inclusive decision-making. Working on a local community challenge with my peers was a highlight — it showed me how diverse ideas and collaboration can solve complex problems. Creative brainstorming and group projects taught me how teamwork amplifies creative thinking and critical analysis.

Finally, I walked away with a clear vision for my leadership path. We learned to set SMART goals and even created vision boards, which now inspire me every day. I practised storytelling and crafting my brand so I can share my journey with others. I am so grateful to Leading Change - Africa and Iwuagwu, our facilitator, not forgetting Dzekedzeke, for this transformative experience. I look forward to applying everything I’ve learned and continuing to grow as a leader who makes a positive impact.

Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.

The Life Cycle of Sin

“When tempted, no one should say, “God is tempting me.” For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone; but each person is tempted when they are dragged away by their own evil desire and enticed. Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death. Don’t be deceived, my dear brothers and sisters. Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows. He chose to give us birth through the word of truth, that we might be a kind of firstfruits of all he created.”
‭‭James‬ ‭1‬:‭13‬-‭18‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Every living thing has a life cycle: it’s born, it grows, it matures, and then it eventually dies. Common sense, right? James tells us that sin has a life cycle too. Constantly in life there are temptations to do things that go against the way God wants us to live, like lying to avoid getting in trouble or saying hurtful things about others to make yourself feel good. Giving in to temptation is what gives birth to sin, which means disobeying God. Even worse, the life cycle of sin doesn’t end there. In today’s passage we see that sin grows and ultimately leads to death, which is what will happen to everyone who continues to be disobedient towards God. Fortunately, we have a loving Heavenly Father who sent His son to die in our place. Now, when we sin, we can say sorry and be confident that God forgives us. Praise God that we have new life through Jesus and are no longer part of the life cycle of sin!

Questions:

Is there a temptation in your life you find it easy to give in to? What could you do to avoid the situation that tempts you?
A Christian man named John Owen once wrote that if we want to spend less time being tempted, we should spend more time praying. What temptations could you ask God to help you with?
Do you know a trustworthy, mature Christian you could talk to about any struggles you have with temptation? Ask them to pray for you.
Prayer:

Lord, thank you for giving me new life through Jesus and freeing me from the cycle of sin. Please help me to fight against temptation and to live a life that pleases You instead. Amen.
