Multi-billion-Kwacha SalimaāLilongwe Water Supply Project has reached 35 percent progress since construction works began.
Project Engineer Cleaverson Nyando says preparations for pipe installation are underway, adding that construction works at Chezi Reservoirs, Mvera and Katengeza Pump Stations as well as the Lifuwu Water Treatment Plant are on course.
The project aims to benefit communities from Salima Boma, Dowa Boma, Lilongwe City and other areas along the 120-kilometre pipeline corridor, including Chipoka, Katengeza, Kanyenyeva, Mvera, Chezi and Chankhungu.
Funded partly by the Malawi Government, which has invested US$100 million (about K150 billion), the two-year project is expected to be completed by the end of 2026, with the remaining funds sourced from investors.
Once completed, the US$315 million project will provide potable water access to over 1.5 million people.
