Back in the day, being a DJ meant real-time mixing. We're talking skill, timing, musical knowledge.
Today, technology is making it easier but also making it easier to be average. Yes, we said it!
And that’s where your intentional elevation comes in. If you’re a DJ, learning music production is a power move because when you produce, you don’t just play the culture; instead you are shaping it.
You have the power to create exclusive edits. Original tracks if that's what you want. Signature sounds to answer the long winded question in the Malawian music industry "what is the Malawian sound? Is it one or multiple?"
It's your move to go from “selector” to “sound owner.”
And for every music creative reading this, whether singer, producer, DJ, songwriter - ask yourself:
• What skill are you adding this year that makes your talent more profitable?
• What knowledge are you gaining that protects your income?
• What systems are you putting in place so your art pays you back?
Talent is beautiful. But structure is what will turn your talent into legacy.
We’re building differently now.
What are your plans for adding to your skill sets this year?
