Today (August 21) we celebrate Saint Pius X, a holy and courageous pontiff whose humble origin, steadfast defense of Catholic truth, and burning love for the Holy Eucharist renewed the heart of the Church.

Quick facts every Catholic should know about Saint Pius X:

1️⃣Born Giuseppe Sarto on June 2, 1835, in Riese, Italy; reigned as Pope from 1903 to 1914; died August 20, 1914.
2️⃣Guided by his papal motto, Instaurare omnia in Christo (""To restore all things in Christ""), he rose from a humble parish priest to a crusader for traditional faith and discipline.
3️⃣Known as the ""Pope of the Eucharist,"" he encouraged frequent Holy Communion, lowered the age for children's First Communion, revived Gregorian Chant, and initiated the codification of Canon Law.
4️⃣Combated Modernism through the encyclical Pascendi, mandated catechetical instruction (Acerbo nimis), and lived a life of radical poverty, famously remarking, ""I was born poor, I lived poor, I die poor.""

His pontificate serves as a timeless reminder that true pastoral care is rooted in unyielding fidelity to Christ's teachings and intimacy with the Eucharist. By lowering the age for First Communion, he brought generations of children into early union with the Savior. May his intercession inspire us to defend our faith with courage, seek frequent encounter with Christ in the Sacrament of the Altar, and strive to restore all things in Christ.

We hosted this amazing team at our Parish for over a month. Now they are back in Italy. It was an amazing exchange on different themes including music, sports and science. We wish them well and hope to see them again.
