Progress Update on Yao Youth Empowerment project by CRECCOM and Chiwanja Cha Ayao

As we continue the journey of empowering Yao youths, we are excited to share the progress that’s been made since our last update!

Following the successful capacity-building workshop organized by CRECCOM with generous funding from USAID Malawi in October, the district youth committees have been making strides. They have already held preparatory meetings with stakeholders and are now ready to begin implementing their community projects.

Notably, in Salima, impactful sessions on child marriages have been conducted, furthering the fight against this harmful practice. In other districts, especially those without active youth committees before, we are thrilled to report that they have started meeting regularly and strategizing how to effectively roll out the program.

This Friday, we look forward to the career guidance and mentorship session organized by the Mangochi team at St Augustine in M'baluku. This session will bring together key stakeholders, including PTA members, Mother Group, chiefs, and the Primary Education Advisor, to support our students in shaping their futures.

We are proud to see our youths taking charge and leading the way toward lasting change. A heartfelt thank you to CRECCOM, USAID Malawi, Youth Response for Social Change, and all our partners for their ongoing commitment.

Together, we are building a brighter future! Stay tuned for more updates.

CRECCOM Empowers Yao Youths for Positive Change

On October 21, Chiwanja cha Ayao successfully completed a capacity-building activity organized by the Creative Centre for Community Mobilization (CRECCOM) through the MILIMO Capacity Building Project, generously funded by USAID Malawifocusing. This impactful initiative brought together motivated youths from eight Ciyawo-speaking districts to develop vital skills to address pressing issues in their communities, with a particular focus on combating child marriages.

Hosted at Sun n Sand Holiday Resort, the workshop equipped participants with practical skills in public speaking, advocacy, and community engagement. These essential tools will enable the youths to actively tackle emerging challenges and advocate for positive change within their communities.

Following the training, several districts have already begun implementing activities planned for October through December, taking immediate action to bring about meaningful change. Below are pictures from the training and inspiring moments of youths engaging community stakeholders.

We extend our sincere gratitude to CRECCOM, USAID Malawi, and Youth Response for Social Change for their dedication to empowering Yao youths and fostering a generation ready to lead and inspire. Once again, thank you, our partners.

What an incredible experience representing Malawi at the vibrant MALAILA ceremony in Lundazi, Zambia! 🎉🇲🇼🇿🇲
Our Chiwanja cha Aya delegation, including Senior Chiefs Malemia, Kapeni, and Traditional Authority Maganga, received a warm and heartfelt welcome. We were hosted with such generosity and kindness by the Zambian people.

One of the most memorable moments was watching our Beni dancers from Mdala Chikowa, Monkey Bay, perform in solidarity with the K***a people. The energy was electric! The local Zambians not only joined in the dance but also splashed the dancers with money as a beautiful gesture of appreciation. 💃💵

We felt truly honored to be a part of such a significant cultural event, attended by the President of Zambia and many other dignitaries. The ceremony celebrated the deep ties between our communities, and we are excited about the future of our growing relationship.

This was not just a trip but a celebration of culture, heritage, and friendship. Looking forward to building more connections between the Yao and K***a people! 🌍🤝

Message from the Chairman of Chiwanja cha Ayao

As schools reopen on Monday, the 16th 2024, I urge all Yao parents to ensure that children currently in initiation camps are brought home in time to start school. Education is key to their future, and we must balance our cultural traditions with their academic needs.

Let us work together to support our children by prioritizing their education as the new term begins.

Thank you.

Chiwanja Cha Ayao proudly announces the successful completion of one in a series of organizational assessment meetings, supported by CRECCOM through its MILIMO Capacity Building Project, generously funded by USAID Malawi Malawi.

The significance of these assessments cannot be overstated. They have been instrumental in shaping how we function as a heritage association that serves a vast community. Through these evaluations, we have gained valuable insights into strengthening our organizational structure, ensuring financial sustainability, and building capacity—all critical elements for the long-term success of our projects.

We sincerely thank CRECCOM for its steadfast support over the years. Their guidance has empowered us to better serve our members and achieve our mission.

Together, we look forward to continued growth and success.
