“ Maybe you can beat your niece and nephew at Just Dance 4 on the Wi. Maybe you’re a So You Think You Can Dance ju**ie and host viewing parties at your place. Or maybe you’ve made up your own routine to “Gangnam Style” and your moves are even more over-the-top than the ones in the video. No doubt about it: Dance is part of the cultural zeitgeist, with movies like Black Swan and the seemingly infinite iterations of Step Up tapping into the energy too. Now, YADA Dance Company captures some of the excitement in its stage show “Dance Rush”. The story is based loosely on the 2007 film August Rush, in which a young boy with extraordinary musical abilities searches for his parents in NYC, and features Robin Williams as a Fagin figure among the street performers. In YADA’’s version the boy falls asleep and, as in the Nutcracker, dreams a series of dances, each with its own distinct musical style like jazz or ballet. Really, it’s just an excuse for YADA to show its stuff, as the 25-year old company appears here for the first time in the U.S. and brings a corps of more than three dozen performers…
Expect nothing less than a dance extravaganza!”

Good beginning week all! Note pls this week is first fullest week - all three schools in operation. Tonight rehearsal with Yaz for Friday show - tomorrow, Wednesday and Thursday rehearsals for Friday show. Tomorrow Traviata rehearsals - big November show rehearsals commence mid October. Choosing a DANCE SCHOOL FOR YOURSELF OR FOR YOUR CHILDREN

Make sure CLASSICAL BALLET with INTERNATIONAL ACCREDITED CERTIFICATES such as RAD or CECCHETTI are present within the institution

JAZZ DANCE tutors apart from having serious GRADUATED certificates signed by renowned, experienced and extensively trained tutors stemming from serious dance institutions ALSO have AN EXTENSIVE KNOWLEDGE with certificates for CLASSICAL DANCE or have had extensive years of training and experience in CONTEMPORARY DANCE within serious institutions

CONTEMPORAY DANCE tutors have an AN EXTENSIVE KNOWLEDGE with certificates for CLASSICAL DANCE or have had extensive years of training and experience in CONTEMPORARY DANCE within serious institutions

HIP HOP / COMMERCIAL tutors have had preferably training abroad in Vocational Performing Arts Schools abroad and obtained diplomas OR have had EXTENSIVE years of training with other masters of Hip Hop / Commercial

Local schools are registered and have obtained a certificate to teach and operate with all standard regulations such as Data Protection Act, Fire and Saftey through the local Ministry of Education and have all tax and revenue adjustments

Ideally schools are affiliated with other INTERNATIONAL dance schools, tutors and institutions and who offer students opportunites for scholarships, workshops and experiences through these affiliations

Ideally schools provide opportunites for serious and professional performances preferably in major theatres locally and abroad.

School directors have had some sort of managerial and administrative skills with knowing the needs and psychology of children and teens – know physical and mental in-depth knowledge – and are capable to handling artistic direction through having had first-hand experience in direction, choreographic skills if creating and have the know-how in-depth of theatrical expertise.

INFORMATION REGARDING RECOGNITION ASSESSMENT AND EXAMINATION CERTIFICATES IN MALTA AND IN OUR INSTITUTION

Information Tuition, Certificates and Assessments

1. Jazz Dance like Contemporary Dance and Hip Hop or Commercial is a form of dance that will NEVER be accredited with a recognized certificate AT NO SCHOOL due to the fact that both dance genres are a FREE, no-syllabus and liberated creative disciplines. Students of above genres are usually ASSESSED yearly through a year-after-year changing syllabus that reflects the needs and trends of today’s dance – this would prepare dancers better whose

• aim is either join the University studies in Dance ( where Classical Ballet training is a must )
• who wish to do auditions locally and abroad ( no dance agents would look at certificates but would want to see how good the dancer is )
• join an International Vocational Performing Arts School abroad
( auditions required and not certificates ).

2. Do please note that many of the Jazz Dance tutors teaching in other schools from The College of Dance or The YADA Dance Academies have graduated from The College of Dance or The YADA Dance Academies with a certificate from these schools and have had certificates signed by either Felix Busuttil, Justin Barker and Daron Galea who have had EXTENSIVE years of Classical Ballet and Contemporary Dance training, have studied and obtained international Diplomas in vocational Performing Arts institutions abroad, are at present studying Masters in Contemporary Dance at The University of Malta and have had many years of dance experience.

3. If anyone wishes to take up Jazz Dance or Contemporary Dance it is hugely advisable for parents and students to be aware that their teachers have had EXTENSIVE training, diplomas and certificates in Classical Ballet or many years in Professional Contemporary Dance as Jazz Dance is fused as based with Classical and Contemporary Dance.

4. Modern Dance such as I.S.T.D ( and I repeat Modern Dance and not Jazz
Dance ) is an accredited form of dance that is tied down to an international syllabus and MUST BE TAUGHT by I.S.T.D. accredited teachers – this certificate like Cecchetti and RAD Ballet certificates is recognized internationally. Many I.S.T.D. students take this form of dance TOGETHER WITH CLASSICAL BALLET TRAINING as it is highly needed.

5. Classical Ballet training is essential to study dance academically, if wanting to teach Jazz Dance in the future, if wanting to audition for any dance company locally or internationally or wishing to go abroad and study dance abroad whether in a University or a Vocational Performing Arts School.

6. Nevertheless if anyone wishes to say want to study Dance at University of Malta level or at any other international University, yes Modern Dance certificates are accepted however no one with the right frame of mind would enter a University degree without an EXTENSIVE understanding and training in CLASSICAL DANCE – University courses all hold Classical Ballet lessons as part of their curriculum and stepping into a University course without Ballet would make you look truly UNPREPARED AND LACKING. Therefore ADVICE for youngsters wanting to join University to study dance would be : 1) TAKE UP BALLET 2) Take up another form of dance such as JAZZ DANCE
( Taught by teachers with experience in Classical Ballet and/or Contemporary Dance ) or CONTEMPORARY DANCE that are more free and creative in order to be a full-rounded dancer. ISTD Modern Dance training is an ADDED bonus
