Sunday Times 25th January 2026:
Prof. Louis Lagana, art critic and curator, presents a succinct analysis of "Mystique Blues" , Galina Troizky's exhibition hosted by MUZA -the National Community Art Museum - in Valletta, with support from Flimkien ghal Ambjent Ahjar (FAA) and Din l-Art Helwa, an NGO dedicated since 1965 to protecting and preserving Malta's cultural and natural heritage.
The tensions between economic imperatives and quality of life at personal and community levels are an increasingly ubiquitous feature of rapid urbanisation, both locally as well as in several other countries. Along with the novelty and other merits of the artworks presented comes the hope that the inherent messaging will live on within mature public debate and decision-making processes.
This exhibition, at the Auberge D'Italie in Merchants Street , is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., weekends included. It ends on Tuesday 10th February, a public holiday (Festa San Pawl in Valletta).

A clip from the website of the main sponsor, MUZA, as Galina Troizky's exhibition -Mystique Blues- enters its final ten days at the Auberge D'Italie in Valletta.
The exhibition alludes to the tensions between economic imperatives , quality of life and the progressive loss of our sense of Community.......all significantly impacted by our architectural environment in a miniscule country.

"Mystique Blues" is a symbolic , as well as an actual reference to the demise of creativity, aesthetics, heritage and national character in our rapid urbanisation. It is also a social commentary , alluding to the tensions between economic progress and quality of life, as well as to a sense of Community being displaced by Anonymity.
Beautifully set up at MUZA, in Valletta, the exhibition is on display up to the 10th february, 2026......all week between 9a.m. and 5p.m. ; closed on tuesdays during january.

Was the island of Gozo during the Second World War subject to a black market? How did the Gozitans survive those challenging times when rations were re-rationed, and there was a severe scarcity of goods? How did the Police address and manage the dire situation, when hunger was widespread? And how is it that some farmers and breeders, who were poor before the war, became prosperous afterwards?

These questions and more will be explored in a public talk by Charles Bezzina, a renowned researcher on Gozo during World War II, this Saturday, 8 February, at 11.00am. Bezzina has published over twenty books, including award-winning works. A retired bank manager, he is also an accomplished poet and an active member of literary societies, as well as the Imperial War Museum.

Attendance, as always, is free of charge, but seat reservations are encouraged by sending an email to [email protected].

LOST PARADISE....my joint exhibition with Galina Troizky....comes to an end this Sunday 10th November at 5p.m.. It has had a successful run at Il-Hagar Museum in Victoria, thanks in no small way to the great management team and round-the -clock volunteers who have painstakingly nurtured a cultural gem over the past ten years.
Talking to literally hundreds of visitors over the past several weeks, it was particularly gratifying to experience their profound empathy for the two main social issues that motivated our artworks : environmental degradation and the loss of a sense of Community - both distinct but yet inter-related issues that merit our attention. These remain an ongoing and future concern that cannot be shelved by ascribing them to the backroom of nostalgia.

Brother Martin honoured me yesterday with his visit to my joint exhibition with Galina Troizky at il-Hagar in Victoria. Had he asked for a monetary donation , i would have readily obliged with some modest contribution. But sometimes an opportunity comes along when one can really make a material difference to a good cause. Donating a little of your time as an artist can result in hundreds of euros towards sustaining the daily miracle of ensuring dignity and a decent life for a large number of disadvantaged persons. If you are an artist -particularly an established one- how can you let this opportunity pass you by ?
The dar tal-Providenza annual (online) art auction takes place on the 1st January 2025. Exhibits will be displayed at the Parliament foyer in Valletta from the 16th December and then also online (www.dtpauction.com) thereafter. E-mail info@dartalprovidenza .org or call 21462844 to engage.
