We discussed the flamenco dance Alegrías and the themes traditionally found in the cante — joy, happiness, the sea, light and enjoying life.

We then asked the children to use those ideas to come up with their own letra.

This is what 10-year-old Kate wrote:

Joy dances in my heart like sunlight on the sea,
Every smile around me feels like a melody.
I leave behind my worries and let my spirit fly,
With laughter in my soul and stars lighting up the sky.
These are my Alegrías, the little things that make me feel alive.

WHAT A YEAR!

As we get ready for another year at Estudio de Danza Deborah McNamara, we look back and wonder how we managed to fit so much into just mine months!

Performances, examinations, masterclasses, visiting artists, new choreography, trips, collaborations with Spain, wonderful opportunities for our students — and, above all, an incredible amount of dancing.

There have been some truly unforgettable moments, from Inspiración and Rojo Carmesí at Valletta Campus Theatre to welcoming wonderful Spanish artists and teachers to Malta, sharing the stage with young dancers from Jerez, and watching our own dancers continue to grow in confidence, technique and artistry.

It has been busy, exhausting at times, exciting, emotional — and absolutely worth it.

And somehow… we’re ready to do it all again! ❤️
