Just a reminder: tomorrow is the final day to visit our exhibition. We’d love to see you.

Artist statement from Thynn Lei Nwe: Awfully Faded

I have been fascinated by the idea of how our memories, either goods or bad, bring a great impact on our lives. How the memories we cherish encourage us or how the traumatic events put extra weight in our gro-wth, it plays an important part in each's life.
Whether our childhood memo-ries, bedtime stories, dreams, the places we had to leave behind or a glimpse of our loved and lost ones, I believe some of those memories stay with us as we grow and they become a part of us. But for some, they gradually faded.
With the time passing by fast as we grow older and with the chaos around us, our recollections of joy and sadness are just harder to grab.
I think this series of works is my lingering feelings for the memories I let go unknowingly.

As the exhibition approaches its conclusion in two days, we warmly invite you to experience it at your earliest convenience.

Artist statement from Kyaw Htoo Bala: My Head always feels Heavy

The figures' vibrant, luminous color clashes with its solitary, silent posture. This tension speaks to the unseen weight carried within the mind. The work embodies a complex internal landscape-aggression, defiance, sadness, boredom, and swallowed frustration converge with moments of quiet contemplation.

It is a confrontation with the fundamental human condition: the meaninglessness of the burden and the resigned acceptance that existence unfolds beyond individual control.

Kyaw Htoo Bala (b. 1992, Myanmar) brings introspection and contemporary resonance to the forefront of his artistic journey. A Fine Arts graduate of LASALLE College of the Arts, Singapore (2014-2017), Bala navigates a range of mediums: painting, photography, print-making, sculpture, collage, and digital art to explore themes of identity, society, and self-reflection.

His debut solo exhibition took place in Yangon in 2017, marking the beginning of a career rooted in both local narratives and global dialogue.
In 2021, Bala established Monologue Art Space in Yangon to foster artistic collaboration in a rapidly evolving land-scape. MAS was moved to Chiang Mai in 2022. His work was selected for THE 2022 SOVEREIGN ASIAN ART PRIZE exhibition and was successfully auctioned at the event.

Gallery Doves is proud to present our upcoming exhibition:
My Head always feels Heavy & Awfully Faded - A Duo Exhibition by Kyaw Htoo Bala and Thynn Lei Nwe
6 December - 14 December 2025

This exhibition delves into the complexities of the interior life by exploring the two main pressures of the human experience: the archive of memory and the continuous weight of consciousness. Through works, the exhibition reflects how we carry our burdens. One series looks into the beautiful yet melancholy fading of the past, capturing the traces that inevitably slip away. The other confronts the immediate, heavy presence of complex emotions, affirming the intense, contradictory nature of being. Together, the artists offer a profound and intimate meditation on the internal forces that shape and define the self. - Curatorial Statement by Kyaw Htoo Bala

We invite you to explore this contemplative dialogue and join us for a quiet immersion into the worlds they unfold.

Further details will be shared in due course.

Gallery Doves is proud to present our inaugural exhibition:
From Gesture to Geometry: A Monographic Showcase of Kyee Myintt Saw
25 July - 3 August 2025

Born in Yangon in 1939, Kyee Myintt Saw is a central figure in the evolution of Burmese modernism. With a background in mathematics, his work moves between intuition and structure - balancing lyrical abstraction with formal clarity.

This exhibition traces his visual journey from 1998 to the present, featuring key series such as Shwe Dagon Night, Yangon Night, and his recent abstract works. Together, they offer a meditation on light, form, and emotional resonance.

We invite you to explore this retrospective of a singular artistic voice - one that has shaped, and continues to shape, the language of contemporary painting in Myanmar.

Further details will be shared in due course.
