Atlas Fil et Couleur Atlas Fil et Couleur began in 2001 with the simple goal of exporting some of the carpets produced in Itzer to France.

The first members of the Association were a few widowed and destitute women who had been weaving carpets for local use for decades. Exporting carpets to France gave these women, who were among the poorest people in Itzer, the opportunity to earn an income from their artistic skills and efforts and to become self-sufficient. Since 2001, the Association has grown to include more than just carpet wea

vers, and now boasts painters, tailors, woodworkers, and other traditional artisans. In addition to helping local artisans find markets for their products, Atlas Fil et Couleur is engaged in a number of humanitarian and community development activities, with the goal of improving the lives of all members of the Itzer community. Atlas Fil et Couleur became an official registered Association in 2005 and has developed relationships with International Development organizations in Morocco, France and the United States. In 2007, the Association began to focus on the eco-tourism possibilities of the area and members of the Association began leading treks through the beautiful mountains and forests that surround Itzer. These weekend treks offer tourists, students and professionals the opportunity for cultural exchange and a glimpse at traditional Berber life.
