The Mallorcan artist, born in Palma in 1983, presents a reflection on the collective memory of the Balearic Islands through works deeply connected to the territory and everyday life.
Each image acts as a Proustian madeleine, awakening memories, emotions, and sensations associated with moments that no longer exist but have shaped us as individuals and as members of a community.
“Nostalgia” explores the poetic character of everyday gestures, places, and scenes. In Joan Aguiló’s work, past and present coexist within a space of shared memory, suspended between joy and melancholy.
The gallery is transformed into an artist’s studio. Its walls display the original stencils Aguiló used for years on the streets of Palma: images that became part of the city’s visual landscape until they disappeared beneath layers of grey paint.
Now recovered within the exhibition space, these stencils come back to life as witnesses to an urban existence and to a memory that continues to inhabit the city’s streets.
