DATA NEVER DIES.

A public information campaign, but not quite the kind you might expect.

This is the second poster in Think Privacy, a four-month project by artist Adam Harvey exploring the visual language of public communication to ask questions about privacy, surveillance, and our algorithmically organised everyday lives.

You’ll encounter the poster in bus stops and parking spaces across Luxembourg from today, and in our project space from next week.

As our movements, faces, and habits are continuously recorded and processed, where does everyday life end and data begin?

Une campagne d’information publique citoyenne, mais pas tout à fait comme les autres.

Voici la deuxième affiche de Think Privacy, un projet de quatre mois de l’artiste Adam Harvey qui utilise le langage visuel de la communication dans l’espace public pour questionner notre quotidien connecté et de plus en plus géré par les algorithmes.

Vous pourrez découvrir cette affiche dès aujourd’hui aux arrêts de bus et dans les parkings à travers le Luxembourg, puis dans notre espace de projet à partir de la semaine prochaine.

Que se passe-t-il lorsque les traces de notre vie quotidienne deviennent des données ?

Elektron vient tout juste d’ouvrir un nouveau project space !

Venez voir l’espace se remplir progressivement, à partir d’aujourd’hui et sur les 4 prochains mois, avec le projet Think Privacy d’Adam Harvey, consacré à la vie privée et à la surveillance à l’ère de l’intelligence artificielle.

Découvrez aussi une sélection d’ouvrages à consulter sur la surveillance et les données que nous produisons et partageons en masse tous les jours.

Le project space offre un espace permanent pour une partie de la programmation d’Elektron, notamment les expositions, ateliers et rencontres.

Nous continuerons cela dit d’être présents dans l’espace public à Esch et ailleurs, avec deux grands projets en septembre et en février 2027 !

Watch the space fill up gradually, starting today and over the next 4 months, with Adam Harvey’s Think Privacy project, exploring privacy and surveillance in the age of artificial intelligence.

Check out our selection of books on surveillance and the data we all produce and share on a daily basis.

The project space provides a permanent home for part of Elektron’s programme, including some of our exhibitions, workshops and talks.

That said, we’ll continue to be present in public spaces in Esch and beyond, with two major projects coming up in September and February 2027!

Think twice before you smile for the camera. 🤳

Starting tomorrow, we’re thrilled to present Think Privacy, a nationwide poster campaign and mirror installation by Berlin-based artist and researcher Adam Harvey (US/DE).

Adam Harvey has spent over a decade probing the invisible systems that watch us. His work sits at the intersection of art, computer vision, and human rights. He’s also Chief Technologist at Tech 4 Tracing, applying tech to humanitarian weapons detection, and founder of VFRAME, a computer vision project for human rights researchers which received an Award of Distinction at Ars Electronica in 2019.

With Think Privacy, Adam Harvey asks us to consider the data trails left by the most ordinary gestures of daily life. A mirror facing Esch-sur-Alzette’s high street invites you to take a selfie, while bold orange text reminds us: every selfie is a data transaction.

And it doesn’t stop there: posters are going up across the whole country, designed specifically for Luxembourg’s several linguistic communities. Keep an eye out, you might spot Think Privacy wherever you are! 🇱🇺

What does it mean to « Let the Sun Do the Thinking »?

In our last exhibition, one work stood out for its quietly radical statement about the need to rethink how we design automated systems.

Solar Protocol is an experimental web platform hosted across a network of solar-powered servers, maintained by volunteers around the planet.

When linked together, the network routes web traffic to whichever server is enjoying the most sunshine at any given moment. ☀️

Rather than relying on artificial intelligence, it lets environmental conditions determine where computational work happens, pointing toward what the project calls energy-centred design.

Tega Brain, one of the artists behind the project, puts it simply in the video presented in the exhibition:

What if the internet ran on sunlight? ☀️

Last month, a small group of hands-on explorers found out — by building one themselves. Guided by artist Julius Schmiedel, participants assembled a fully functional solar-powered internet server from just ~15 parts.

One of the two servers built during the workshop will soon be installed at Facilitec in Esch-sur-Alzette, joining the global network of Solar Protocol servers — a living, solar-powered internet infrastructure scattered across the planet. 🌍

☀️ Et si modifier les effets du soleil devenait notre dernier recours climatique ?

Staring at the Sun est une installation documentaire de science-fiction présentée sur deux écrans se faisant face, une invitation à contempler l’une des questions les plus vertigineuses de notre époque.

En 4 chapitres, l’œuvre explore la géo-ingénierie solaire : ces techniques qui visent à modifier délibérément, et à grande échelle, les systèmes climatiques de la Terre. Des premiers modèles informatiques des années 1950 aux jumeaux virtuels de notre planète, la simulation climatique n’a jamais été aussi précise, ni aussi chargée d’enjeux.

Basé sur des entretiens réels et portés par des protagonistes fictifs, les projets décrits révèlent les ambitions scientifiques, les intérêts économiques et les dilemmes éthiques qui entourent ces technologies d’intervention sur des systèmes d’une complexité extrême.

Qui a le droit de modifier le climat de la Terre ? Et au nom de qui ?

Join us for a screening of TerraForma, a fascinating documentary about Ascension Island — once a barren volcanic outcrop in the South Atlantic that became the site of one of history’s most ambitious ecological experiments.

In the 19th century, inspired by Charles Darwin, botanists attempted to transform the island into a lush artificial ecosystem by importing plants from across the British Empire. The result? A landscape that raises urgent questions about power, ecology, and the future of terraforming our own planet.

☀️ Et si on laissait le soleil décider ?

C’est la question que pose Solar Protocol, une infrastructure expérimentale qui consiste en un réseau de serveurs internet alimentés à l’énergie solaire, répartis aux quatre coins du monde.

Entretenus par des bénévoles, ces serveurs sont interconnectés et redirigent automatiquement le trafic web vers l’endroit qui reçoit le plus de soleil à un instant donné.

En ancrant les décisions dans les dynamiques environnementales plutôt que dans de simples indicateurs de performance, Solar Protocol remet les questions d’énergie et de ses limites au cœur du processus de conception.

This is the question asked by Solar Protocol — an experimental web platform hosted across a network of solar-powered servers around the world.

Maintained by volunteers, these servers are interconnected and automatically redirect web traffic to whichever location is receiving the most sunlight at any given moment.

By grounding decisions in environmental dynamics — rather than purely in performance metrics — Solar Protocol brings questions of energy and its limits back to the heart of the design process.
