🇱🇷 ‎This is James Debbah of Liberia and Ghana’s Captain from the Liberia vs. Ghana match in 1988 that boosted George Oppong Weah and James Salinsa Debbah’s popularity in Liberian football history. Liberia defeated Ghana 2-0.
‎
‎The late Walter Pelham was the head coach of Lone Star for that match.
‎
‎It was during this game that Liberians sang the popular chant, “Oppong open lay Debbah close it.”
‎Before that match, James Debbah promised he was going to score on Ghana. In the first half, George Opong Weah scored. During the half time, Journalists went to James Debbah on camera, and asked why he had not score up to the end of first half. The "Miracle Maker", James Debbah answered in 8 chilling words", "Just Wait And See What I Will Do". The second half went on and still no goal from Debbah who was tightly policed by the Ghanian defense. Almost for the game to end, James Salinsa Debbah, Liberia Most Celebrated Star made the desperate move and was weighed to the ground by 2 Ghanian defenders. Struggling to rise and leaving the 2 defenders who were holding his jersey, on the ground, Debbah took the decisive shot with his right foot while struggling to rise. Daily Observer Newspaper's photo Journalist, Gregory Stenn caught that daring scene. There, jubilant Liberians burst into singing. "Oppong Open it; Debbah Closed it" and not the other way around.

Before Politics, We Are Liberians.

Today, our nation marks 66 years of National Unification Day. A day born from the profound conviction that Liberia can only rise when her people rise together.

Some say we are reintroducing ourselves; we will let them speak because the truth is
simple: those who truly serve their people never stopped showing up. You
cannot reintroduce what was never absent.
But for those only now discovering what leadership that delivers looks like , welcome to this conversation.

"We are stronger united than separated and no election cycle, no political calculation, no divisive whisper campaign will ever change that truth."

Our diversity as a county is not a liability. It is our greatest inheritance. Whether you support the ruling party, stand with the
opposition, or chart your own independent path, your voice is Liberian.

The Liberia we seek is a Liberia that is built through understanding, tolerance, and a relentless shared commitment to progress.
We must learn to disagree without becoming enemies. We must protect
the peace our people sacrificed to restore.

And it is our duty as statesmen and stateswomen to raise a generation that understands: unity is not weakness but unity is survival.

On this 66th National Unification Day, I call on every Liberian, especially our youth to reject division and choose the spirit of
togetherness. Rise above political colors remembering the red, white, and blue that binds us all as one nation, one destiny, one people.

Liberia does not belong to one. Liberia belongs to all of us.

May peace reign in our communities.
May unity guide our politics.
May love for country overcome every division among us.

Happy 66th National Unification Day,
Liberia.

Immediate Release

The Minister of Youth and Sports, Hon. Atty. Cornelia W. Kruah, attention has been drawn to a matter currently circulating from Grand Cape Mount County regarding the Cadet recruitment process. Upon receiving this information, Minister Kruah ordered an immediate investigation to be launched.

The findings confirmed that Miatta Ellen Dargoseh was originally shortlisted under Montserrado County, as reflected in the screenshot in circulation. Her appearance on the final list for Grand Cape Mount County was an administrative error, which has since been corrected.

Regarding Jede V. Kamara, our investigation could not verify his name on any of the previously approved shortlists. Consequently, Minister Kruah instructed his immediate disqualification from the process.

We remain fully committed to ensuring transparency, fairness, and credibility in all empowerment opportunities for the young people of Liberia. Every necessary step will continue to be taken to protect the integrity of this Cadet Program.

We also encourage members of the public to report any suspicious cases or concerns surrounding the Cadet recruitment process for prompt investigation and appropriate action.

Additionally, I would like to remind the public that the Cadet Program includes:

Senior university students
Recent university graduates
Young people with TVET certificates and vocational training

This Cadet Program is not exclusively for university students. High school graduates who possess recognized TVET certificates or vocational training qualifications are also eligible under that component of the program.
