Sadio Mané Retires from International Football

Sadio Mané, Senegal’s all-time leading goalscorer and one of Africa’s greatest football icons, has announced his retirement from international duty with the Teranga Lions.

In an emotional statement released on Friday, the 34-year-old forward said he has “given the best of myself and always fought with pride for our nation.” Mané thanked Senegalese fans for their unwavering support, describing it as the driving force behind his success.

The former Liverpool star added that his love for his country remains undiminished. “Tomorrow, it is with pleasure that I will put my experience at the service of the Nation, whether in the role of a technical staff member, as a bank of coaches, or in directorial roles,” he declared.

Mané earned 109 caps and scored more than 50 goals for Senegal, leading the side to AFCON glory in 2022 and 2025. His departure marks the end of an era for Senegalese football, though his expertise will continue shaping the national team from behind the scenes.

The 28 players will receive 1,500 square-metre coastal plots of land.

In the middle of Ousmane Dembélé's speech after receiving the Ballon d'Or, the cameras focused on a young man crying.

It's Moustapha Diatta, Ousmane's childhood friend, with whom he played in all the youth categories in France. Moustapha never became a professional like Ousmane.

But he always believed in his friend, and that's why Ousmane also dedicated his Ballon d'Or to him:

"To Moustapha, with whom I've been together since we were 4 or 5 years old. He's always been there for me, always supported me. He always told me that one day I would be the best in the world. And we'll always be together."

“Sleep well, sir. Watching you always pushed me to be better,” Nigerian actress Ufuoma McDermott wrote, as Africans joined global tributes to US celebrity judge and social media star Frank Caprio, who has died aged 88.

Best known as the “nicest judge in the world”, Caprio became a viral sensation through his TV show Caught in Providence, where his compassion and humour in the courtroom won billions of online views.

“All the way in Africa, I followed your good deeds on social media. May your beautiful soul rest with the Lord,” another fan wrote on Facebook.

Caprio’s death, announced on his official Instagram after a battle with pancreatic cancer, has been met with tributes highlighting his warmth, empathy and belief that justice could be fair without losing its humanity.
