🇱🇰🐘 PROTECTING SRI LANKA’S WILDLIFE DURING THE SEVERE DROUGHT 🌿💧
Sri Lanka’s wildlife is facing a difficult period as severe dry conditions continue to affect national parks and protected areas across the island.
Wildlife authorities are carrying out emergency operations to provide much-needed water to animals, transporting water by bowsers to dried-up ponds and waterholes in areas including Buddhangala, Gal Oya Valley North-East / Ampara Sanctuary and Lahugala National Park. 💧🐘
At Yala National Park, restrictions have also been introduced in important areas affected by water shortages, allowing elephants, leopards, deer and other wildlife to reach increasingly scarce water sources with less disturbance.
🌿 WILDLIFE COMES FIRST
Sri Lanka is world-famous for its extraordinary wildlife. From majestic elephants and elusive leopards to hundreds of bird species, our natural heritage is one of the greatest reasons travellers from around the world fall in love with this island.
But responsible tourism means more than simply seeing wildlife.
It means protecting the animals, respecting their habitats and allowing nature the space it needs—especially during challenging conditions such as drought. ❤️🇱🇰
