Never give up

Since I was a young boy
I had a dream
I look handsome and bright
Like a singer and dancer
When I live in Colombo for work travelling on foot
And join open university
As a project assistant
My dreams will come true
And it will happen to me
I can do anything if I keep trying
Because most importantly
The hardest task will be easier
And my dreams will come true
Keep believing in myself
This is the time
This is the place
I am a permanent fixture
Of Open University
And the best project assistant in my department
I will be the best guy to keep company with
I will be the greatest person in our department
I am the boy who cares about us
I am the the guy to be with
I will go down in history
As the best project assistant in this department

The 78th Independence Day

78 years of independence
Have come to Colombo
From British colony to
An independent, self-reliant nation
With natural beauty and hospitality
Friendly people and astonishing wildlife
Scenic greenery and sprawling beaches
The mountainous countryside
To the vibrant streets and constant sunshine
Having overcome all obstacles
And major challenges in history
Such as the Sri Lankan Civil War,
The Easter Sunday Attacks, The Covid Pandemic, the Economic Crisis
Sri Lanka is a resilient country
That is self sustaining
Self reliant, independent and free

What if world war three happened?

At the moment
The world is under tension
From attacks by the first world powers
To the defenseless third world nations
Causing significant damage
Countless loss of lives
Internet blackouts and power outages
Cutting access to water
Causing millions to starve to death
Due to severe food shortages
All because of the invasion of Iran
By the United States and Israel
The conflict would spread like
Uncontrolled metastatic cancer
Ranging from Syria to Iraq
Azerbaijan to Bulgaria
India to Russia and far beyond
Everyone must join hands
And vow to stop the war
Before it’s too late
Otherwise world war three
Would break out almost immediately
Causing a total wipeout of humanity
Due to nuclear weapons
Together we will all pray
To stop the war
Before it’s too late

I made a poem regarding the anniversary of the Aragalaya, which happened on May 9th, 2022, around four years ago.

A poem about may 9

The morning was bright, as we prepare for swimming
Had fun in the water, and enjoyed lunch in a restaurant
And when rest time came, terrible news happened all of a sudden

The country was in chaos, so no one was safe,
We had no option but packing our bags and going home

As the metal dog ran downhill, there was chaos and lawlessness in the street,

Despite the dark, gloomy conditions, blood was scattered everywhere.

Adding more horror, were burned-down vehicles lying on their sides and upside down.
Their metal skeletons being charred away by flames. The houses were burned, property damaged and money looted.

The day of justice before riots came,
Lie several destruction of public and private property.

These metal monsters lay sinking in the water. Their masters and passengers having abandoned them.

All that was left at the end of the day was eerie silence, of the bloodshed and destruction. A day that marked a black patch in history.

We will never forget. The carnage, the horror, the shock and grief of the aftermath. A disaster that shocked us all. The worst in modern history. We will never forget this lesson, for future generations to learn.

Time Always remember, that time is money Time steps out for nobody Time is what we want the most But also what we use the worst One always has time enough But only if one will apply it well A man who dares to waste one hour of time Has not discovered the true value of life To realize the value of one year Ask a student who failed his final exam To realize the value of one month Ask a mother who gave birth to a premature baby To realize the value of one week Ask an editor of a weekly newspaper To realize the value of one hour Ask a diver who wears an oxygen cylinder on his back To realize the value of one minute Ask a person who just missed the bus, train or plane To realize the value of one second Ask a person who survived an accident To realize the value of one millisecond Ask a person who won a silver medal at the Olympic Games Time waits for no one Treasure every moment you have You will treasure it even more When you can share it with someone special

Challenges Man is blessed Who in this life can find A purpose than can fill his entire life And goals to fill his mind The world is filled with little men Happy with who they are Not knowing that success and joy can bring Nothing goes that far Yet in this world, there is a need For men to lead at their best To rise above the average life By giving the test Would you be someone, who can try When challenged by the task Climbing greater heights you've never seen Or is that too much to ask? This is your day, and a world to win A special purpose that one can achieve Accept the challenge to obtain your ultimate goal And in yourself, believe You'll be proud of what you've done At the end of the day You look back at the battles you've won Happily, you can come this way

Leisure What if life is filled with care? Do we have time to stand and stare? No time to stand beneath the boughs And stare at the sheep and cows No time to see, as we pass Where squirrels bury their acorns in the grass No time to see, in broad daylight A sky filled with stars at night No time to glance and see how they dance No time to open the can And think about how it all began A poor life this would be, if all the time someone cares We have no time to stand and stare

Victory If you think you're beaten black and blue, you are If you think you're guilty or not, you don't If you like to win, but think you can't It's almost something that you won't If you think you're losing, you're lost Out of this world we'll find Success begins with a friend's will It's all in the state of your mind If you think you're outclassed and outsmarted, you are You've got to think high to rise You've got to be sure of yourself for sure before You can win your first ever prize Life's major battles always don't go To the strongest man and the fastest man But sooner or later, the man who wins Is the man who thinks he can

Brain Drain

The migration of educated individuals
From their native country
To the country that they desire to live in
Better job opportunities
Career advancement, research, academic employment
A country facing brain drain
Has numerous problems
Economic loss for the host country
As educated professionals leave for better salaries
Development of the home country
Greatly affected when the educated people do not use their knowledge to develop the country in which they were born
Not generally experienced in highly developed countries
As there is an equal mix of
Both educated professionals as well as educated people from other countries
To combat brain drain
Increase in job opportunities and research opportunities
Long term process
To establish facilities
For employment opportunities
Should highly skilled workers
Serve their own country
They don’t have to seek better job opportunities elsewhere
The only solution to brain drain

Setting your goals

The process of clear vision
And motivating your dreams into reality
Choose wherever you want to go
When you want to achieve something
You have to focus on your efforts
Start personal goals by brainstorming
Evaluate each activity
Identify what you can do
Ensure the goals set by you
Are the ones you want to achieve
Not the ones that family, friends or anyone else want to achieve
Break down your goals to simple objectives
And follow them within a certain timeframe
Every time you achieve a simple objective
You are self confident
And motivated to achieve your lifetime goals
After all, it will remain a dream
Until you achieve your goals
If you want to live a happy life
Achieve goals all by yourself

Anne Frank

A Jewish girl from Germany
Who hid away from the n***s
During World War Two
She became famous for the diary she wrote while in hiding
Having left her native Germany
Her family stayed in an apartment
Living quietly and silently
Food, clothing and books were arranged for them
By some office workers
She received a diary on her birthday
And started writing it down
About the events
In the annex, her life and humanity
Her diary provided great support and a source of relief
Deported to Auschwitz camp
Until her untimely death at just 15 years old

Bermuda Triangle

Located in the Atlantic Ocean
The Bermuda Triangle covers three countries
Bermuda, Puerto Rico and USA
Planes and boats have mysteriously disappeared
Because of bad weather and human error
Unexplained disappearance became public
Being consistently reported in global media
There are claims that
Unidentified supernatural explanations included the presence of ufos and the lost continent of Atlantis
Other potential claims include
Aliens, magnetic anomalies, pirates, hurricanes, bad weather, deliberate sinking, gas deposits, tsunamis and human error
Some famous reports of these disappearances
USS cyclops and crew of 309 went missing after leaving Barbados
TBM stealth bomber planes flying through the Atlantic Ocean went missing
Douglas DC aircraft carrying 32 passengers went missing
A yacht that survived three hurricanes before vanishing into thin air
The Bermuda Triangle indeed
Is a mystery that remains unsolved
Even to this day
