Disc Shape UFO — The Most Famous UFO Shape

The disc-shaped UFO, often called the flying saucer, is probably the most iconic shape associated with UFO sightings. The classic image is a metallic, flattened craft with a raised dome and sometimes glowing lights around its underside. However, it is important to distinguish the reported shape from proof of an actual extraterrestrial spacecraft.

The modern popularity of the flying-saucer shape grew dramatically after June 24, 1947, when pilot Kenneth Arnold reported seeing nine unusual objects near Mount Rainier, Washington. Arnold described their movement as being similar to saucers skipping across water. Newspapers subsequently popularized the term “flying saucer,” helping establish the disc as the classic UFO shape.

Reports of disc-shaped objects continued for decades. The U.S. Air Force's Project Blue Book, which investigated UFO reports from 1952 to 1969, eventually recorded 12,618 reports, with 701 classified as unidentified. The National UFO Reporting Center (NUFORC) also maintains a large database of reports categorized by shape, including many reports described as discs or saucers.

Interestingly, the disc isn't necessarily the most frequently reported UFO form in every dataset. NUFORC currently notes that orbs, triangles, and circles/discs are among its most commonly reported shapes. Some historical analyses of UFO reports have also found elliptical or disc-like descriptions to be particularly common.

So why do people report disc-shaped objects? Possible explanations include aircraft viewed from unusual angles, balloons, atmospheric effects, reflections, astronomical objects, and other conventional phenomena. NUFORC itself advises observers to consider commonly misidentified objects before submitting a UFO report.

Despite these possible explanations, the disc shaped UFO remains one of the most recognizable symbols of the UFO phenomenon. Whether it represents an unusual aircraft, a misidentified natural phenomenon, or something that remains unexplained in a particular case is something that has to be determined case by case. A reported UFO shape by itself is not evidence that the object was an alien spacecraft.

The Tic Tac UFO - How Could It Move? 🛸

The 2004 USS Nimitz encounter is famous because U.S. Navy pilots reported seeing a white, Tic Tac-shaped object moving in ways they could not explain using familiar aircraft technology.

According to retired Navy pilot David Fravor, the object appeared to accelerate rapidly and then disappeared from view. He also reported that it later appeared on radar roughly 60 miles away in less than a minute. In his 2023 congressional statement, Fravor said the object appeared to outperform his F/A-18 and did not seem to operate according to familiar aerodynamic principles.

How Did It Move?

One of the most interesting parts of the encounter was the apparent lack of conventional propulsion. Fravor stated that the infrared video did not show the thermal exhaust plume normally expected from a conventional propulsion system.

The reported movement included:

Acceleration: The object reportedly went from hovering or slow movement to very rapid motion.

Sharp changes in direction: Witnesses described movement that appeared difficult to reconcile with conventional aircraft.

Hovering: The object was reported to remain nearly stationary over the ocean.

Rapid travel - Fravor reported that the object later appeared approximately 60 miles away in less than a minute.

So What Could Power It?

The real propulsion system of the Tic Tac remains unknown.

Some speculative ideas involve advanced electromagnetic fields, gravity manipulation, or even effects on the surrounding space. These are theories, not confirmed explanations.

Scientists have also developed unusual propulsion concepts that do not resemble traditional engines, so the absence of a visible exhaust alone does not prove extraterrestrial technology.

The most accurate conclusion is simple: the reported performance of the Tic Tac remains unexplained, while its actual propulsion mechanism has not been publicly identified.

The Riverside UFO Photograph — 1951

On November 23, 1951, a photograph taken near Riverside, California, appeared to show a dark, disc-shaped object above the hills. The photograph was later preserved among U.S. Air Force records and is now held by the U.S. National Archives.

The photographer, Guy B. Marquand Jr., initially claimed that he had photographed a flying saucer after seeing it pass through the sky. The image attracted attention and was distributed through the news media.

But the story took an unexpected turn. During an Air Force investigation in March 1952, Marquand admitted that the photograph was a hoax. The National Archives itself records that investigators became skeptical and that the photographer eventually acknowledged the deception.

Later accounts identify the object as a car wheel cover/hubcap that had been thrown into the air and photographed.

So this isn't an example of a confirmed alien spacecraft. Instead, it's a fascinating example of how an alleged UFO photograph became part of the historical U.S. Air Force and UFO-investigation record.

UFO stories often describe different types of aliens and the spacecraft supposedly associated with them. Here are six of the most commonly mentioned types:

1. GREYS 👽 — DISC / SAUCER
Small beings with grey skin and large black eyes. Often linked to classic flying saucers and alleged abduction stories.

2. NORDICS — LARGE DISC / OVAL
Tall, human-like beings with light hair and blue eyes. UFO stories often associate them with large oval or disc-shaped craft.

3. REPTILIANS 🦎 — TRIANGULAR / BLACK TRIANGLE
Reptile-like humanoids commonly featured in UFO and conspiracy stories. Sometimes linked to mysterious black triangular craft.

4. INSECTOIDS — EGG / OVAL SHAPED
Insect-like beings described in some alleged encounters. Their supposed craft are sometimes described as egg-shaped or oval.

5. PLEIADIANS — DISC / SAUCER
Human-like beings said in UFO lore to come from the Pleiades star cluster. They are often associated with classic saucer-shaped craft.

6. UNKNOWN / NON-HUMAN ENTITIES — TIC-TAC / CYLINDER
Modern UAP reports include unusual Tic-Tac, cylindrical and spherical objects. Their connection to any alien species is unknown.

UFO Bottom Forward Flight - The mysterious object filmed by a pilot over Colombia 🛸

On May 12, 2022, Colombian pilot Jorge Arteaga reported a strange encounter while flying a Cessna T303 Crusader over Antioquia, near the route between Medellín and Santa Fe de Antioquia. He said he was flying at around 12,500 feet when he and his co-pilot noticed a dark object that appeared to remain almost stationary in the sky.

After passing the object, Arteaga turned the aircraft around to take another look. During the second encounter, he managed to record it with his phone. In the short footage, the object appears to move rapidly across the scene, showing a dark-and-light body with an unusual shape. Reports describing the footage say it was visible for only a few seconds.

What makes the case interesting is the pilot's claim that the object did not appear to have visible wings, a conventional engine, or an obvious propulsion system. Arteaga also said the object seemed to move toward his aircraft, which made him stop pursuing it.

But does this prove that it was an alien spacecraft? No. The footage does not provide enough information to establish the object's actual size, distance, or speed. There is also no publicly available radar data or complete flight data that would allow investigators to reconstruct the encounter precisely.

Some analysts have proposed that the unusual appearance and apparent movement could have a conventional explanation, including perspective and camera-motion effects. The object could therefore remain unidentified without necessarily being extraterrestrial.

The footage became widely known in 2023, even though the original encounter happened in 2022. It has since returned to social media several times, with some UFO researchers calling it one of the more intriguing pilot-recorded UAP videos.

UFO/UAP does not automatically mean alien spacecraft. In this case, the most accurate conclusion is simple: a pilot recorded an unusual object, but its true identity remains uncertain.

The strange UFO shapes described by David Grusch

Former U.S. intelligence officer David Grusch became widely known after testifying before Congress in 2023 about alleged government programs involving the recovery and analysis of UAPs.

But one of the more unusual parts of his later statements was his description of the different shapes of alleged recovered craft.

In a 2026 interview, Grusch said there were many different types of vehicles. He described them as including:

🔹 Disc / Saucer – a classic flying-saucer shape.

🔹 Sunfish / Boot-Heel – a strange shape he compared to a sunfish or the heel of a boot.

🔹 Boomerang – a curved, boomerang-like design.

🔹 Crescent Moon – a craft resembling a crescent moon.

🔹 Tic-Tac – a smooth, elongated shape similar to the famous “Tic-Tac” UAP description.

🔹 Egg – an oval or egg-like craft.

According to Grusch, the different shapes could represent different types of vehicles or technologies. He also said it was difficult to determine where they originated because there was no clear information about their point of origin in space or time.

BUT ARE THESE ALIEN SPACECRAFT?

That remains unproven.

Grusch's statements are claims and descriptions based on information and material he says he had access to. The underlying evidence, including the alleged recovered vehicles, has not been publicly presented in a way that independently verifies the extraterrestrial explanation.

It's also important to remember that Grusch's 2023 congressional testimony did not contain this six-shape list. The specific descriptions of discs, sunfish/boot heel shapes, boomerangs, crescents, Tic Tacs and eggs came from his later 2026 interview.

A Mysterious Green Flash on Jupiter — Captured by NASA’s Juno

A strange green glow appears deep within the swirling clouds of Jupiter in this remarkable image captured by NASA’s Juno spacecraft.

At first glance, the tiny green flash looks almost like something from a science-fiction movie. But NASA identifies the phenomenon as the glow from a lightning bolt occurring in Jupiter’s atmosphere. The flash was observed near one of the enormous vortices surrounding Jupiter’s north pole.

The image was captured on December 30, 2020, during Juno’s 31st close flyby of Jupiter. At the time, the spacecraft was approximately 32,000 kilometers (19,900 miles) above Jupiter’s cloud tops, at a latitude of about 78 degrees.

Jupiter’s lightning is particularly fascinating because its atmosphere is very different from Earth’s. NASA scientists believe that lightning on Jupiter can occur inside clouds containing an ammonia-water mixture, and these electrical flashes are commonly observed near the planet’s polar regions.

The original JunoCam data was later processed by citizen scientist Kevin M. Gill, turning the spacecraft’s raw observations into the striking image we see today. NASA has made JunoCam’s raw images available for the public to explore and process.

So, although the green glow looks mysterious, there is no evidence that it represents an artificial object or extraterrestrial activity. It is a remarkable glimpse of a natural electrical phenomenon taking place on the largest planet in our Solar System. ⚡🪐

Skinwalker Ranch - The UFO & Alien Mystery

Deep in the remote wilderness of Utah lies a place surrounded by some of America's strangest UFO stories: Skinwalker Ranch.

For decades, witnesses have reported mysterious lights in the sky, unidentified flying objects, strange creatures, unusual electromagnetic activity, and other unexplained phenomena. Some people believe these events could be connected to extraterrestrial visitors.

But is Skinwalker Ranch really hiding evidence of aliens?

🛸 UFOs IN THE SKY

One of the most frequently reported phenomena at Skinwalker Ranch is the appearance of mysterious objects and lights in the sky.

Witnesses have described objects that appeared to move in unusual ways, sometimes changing direction or disappearing unexpectedly.

Some UFO researchers have suggested that these sightings could represent advanced extraterrestrial spacecraft.

However, an unidentified object is not automatically an alien spacecraft. The available evidence has not established that the objects are extraterrestrial.

👽 STRANGE ENCOUNTERS

The ranch is also famous for reports of strange creatures and humanoid figures.

Perhaps the strangest idea connected to Skinwalker Ranch is the possibility of a portal or doorway to another dimension.

Some witnesses and researchers have reported unusual objects appearing and disappearing, leading to speculation that the ranch could be connected to something beyond ordinary physical space.

Others have suggested that these observations could have conventional explanations.

There is currently no scientifically confirmed evidence that a dimensional portal exists at the ranch.

👽 AN ALIEN HOTSPOT?

Because UFO sightings, strange lights, unusual creatures and unexplained phenomena have all been reported at the same location, some UFO researchers believe Skinwalker Ranch could be a hotspot for non human intelligence.

One possibility proposed by believers is that extraterrestrial technology may be responsible for some of the phenomena.

Another theory suggests something even stranger that the phenomena may not come from outer space at all, but from another dimension.

The Washington UFO Incident — Strange Lights Over the Capitol

On the nights of July 19–20, 1952, Washington, D.C. became the center of one of the most famous UFO incidents in American history. Multiple unidentified objects were reported over the capital, with radar operators at Washington National Airport and Andrews Air Force Base detecting unusual targets in the sky. Witnesses also reported seeing mysterious lights moving across the night sky.

The reports were taken seriously because they involved both radar observations and visual sightings. The incident occurred during the early Cold War, when the possibility of unknown aircraft over the nation's capital was a major concern. The U.S. Air Force was already operating Project Blue Book, which investigated UFO reports and collected witness accounts, documents, photographs, and other evidence.

The mystery attracted enormous public attention. On July 31, 1952, Major General John A. Samford held a Pentagon press conference discussing the wave of “flying saucer” reports. Archival film of that press conference still exists today in the U.S. National Archives.

What were the objects? The Air Force investigated the reports and considered conventional explanations, including atmospheric conditions that could produce unusual radar returns. However, the Washington sightings remain one of the most famous cases in the history of UFO investigations not because they prove extraterrestrial spacecraft, but because multiple witnesses and radar operators reported unexplained objects over the U.S. capital during the same period.

More than 70 years later, the 1952 Washington UFO Incident remains a fascinating chapter in the history of unexplained aerial phenomena.

The 1965 Santa Ana UFO Photograph — Real Object or Clever Hoax?

In 1965, a strange object was photographed over Santa Ana, California, in what became one of the most controversial UFO photo cases in American history. On August 3, 1965, highway investigator Rex Heflin reportedly saw a metallic, hat-shaped object above the road while sitting in his work vehicle. He used a Polaroid camera he carried for his job and captured several photographs..

Heflin described the object as roughly circular, with a dome like upper section and darker areas around its middle. He claimed that he also noticed a narrow rotating light underneath the object. Three photographs reportedly showed the object, while a fourth image captured what appeared to be a dark ring or cloud after it had disappeared. The case attracted significant attention and was investigated by the U.S. Air Force and later by the University of Colorado's UFO study.

But the photographs remain disputed. The Condon Report pointed out several inconsistencies and questioned their evidential value, while other investigators argued that the images could not easily be dismissed as a simple hoax. The National Archives preserves the photograph today as part of its historical UFO investigation records. So, whether Heflin photographed an unknown object or created one of the most convincing UFO photographs of its era remains a subject of debate.
