프란체스코 프리마티초는
이탈리아에서 태어나 프랑스 궁정에서 활동한 예술가입니다.

그는 회화, 조각, 건축, 장식까지 아우르며
이탈리아 매너리즘 양식을
프랑스 궁정미술에 정착시킨 인물로 평가됩니다.

매너리즘은 르네상스의 자연스러운 균형에서 벗어나 길게 늘어난 인체, 복잡한 자세, 세련된 장식성을 강조한 양식입니다.

호메로스의 『오디세이아』 속 재회의 장면을 담고 있습니다.

who became active at the French court.

Working across painting, sculpture, architecture, and decoration,
he is regarded as a key figure who introduced

Mannerism moved away from the natural balance of the Renaissance,
emphasizing elongated bodies, complex poses,
and refined decorative beauty.

Featured in this exhibition,
Ulysses and Penelope depicts a scene of reunion
from Homer’s Odyssey.

It captures the moment when Ulysses,
after a long journey,
meets Penelope, who has waited for him.

The elongated arms and legs,
the closely positioned figures,
and the gentle gesture of holding her chin
convey both tension and intimacy.

This work is connected to the murals
that once decorated the Gallery of Ulysses
at the Château de Fontainebleau.

However, the gallery was dismantled in 1738.
Today, this painting remains as a trace
of the lost decoration of the palace.
