Does having a smartphone, a streaming app, and thousands of followers make someone a Broadcast Engineer?
The answer is simple: NO!...
Content creation and broadcast engineering are not the same profession.
A content creator may know how to record, edit, stream, and build an audience.
A Broadcast Engineer is expected to understand:
• Broadcast and media transport protocols
• Satellite, IP, fiber, and contribution networks
• Video encoding and compression standards
• Signal routing and distribution architectures
• Redundancy and disaster recovery strategies
• Live production workflows
• Operational risk management
• Industry standards and compliance requirements
Most importantly, broadcast engineers are responsible for keeping critical services on air when failure is not an option.
The industry does not reward likes, views, or follower counts.
It rewards reliability, technical competence, problem-solving, and the ability to reduce risk in live environments.
A viral video can be created with a smartphone.
A global live event serving millions of viewers requires engineering, architecture, standards, procedures, and years of operational experience.
Popularity is a social metric.
Engineering is a professional discipline.
The two should not be confused.
