How seeds are extracted from cabbage
🌱 1. Let the Cabbage Bolt

Cabbage is a biennial, meaning it produces seeds in its second year.

In the first year, the plant grows a leafy head. To get seeds, you must let it overwinter (or simulate winter by vernalization), so it will flower the following season.

In the second year, the cabbage sends up a tall flowering stalk and produces yellow flowers, which are pollinated (usually by insects).

🌼 2. Pollination and Pod Development

After pollination, the flowers develop into thin seed pods (called siliques), similar to small green beans.

These pods contain several small brown or black seeds.
🌾 3. Wait for Maturity

Allow the seed pods to fully dry and turn brown on the plant.

Be careful: if left too long, they can split open and scatter the seeds.

✂️ 4. Harvest the Pods

Cut the flowering stalks with mature pods.

Place them in a paper bag or hang them upside down in a dry, well-ventilated area to finish drying.

Supplement with MOP (Muriate of Potash, 60% K): 50–100 kg/ha if needed
