🇹🇿⚡ Tanzania's Electric Train Is Changing East Africa's Future
For decades, cargo and passengers across East Africa relied heavily on roads and aging railway systems. Tanzania is changing that with its Standard Gauge Railway (SGR)—an electrified railway designed for faster, cleaner, and more efficient transport.
🚄 Passenger trains can reach speeds of up to 160 km/h, while freight trains operate at speeds of up to 120 km/h, dramatically reducing travel times and improving regional trade.
The railway connects the Port of Dar es Salaam to the country's interior, with future links planned to neighboring countries such as Rwanda, Burundi, Uganda, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
Beyond moving people and goods, the project is expected to:
✅ Reduce transport costs.
✅ Ease pressure on highways.
✅ Boost regional trade.
✅ Support industrial growth.
✅ Cut carbon emissions compared to diesel-powered rail.
Infrastructure doesn't just connect places—it transforms economies.
Do you think Tanzania's electric railway will reshape trade in East Africa?
