Thereโ€™s something special about creating something together. The messy hands, the long days, the random laughs and the little moments in between.
Walls are temporary but the memories we made along the way might be the part we keep.

Iโ€™ve been looking at Blaineโ€™s work from the outside for a while, but this time I got to hear the thoughts behind it, straight from her.
From colour and abstraction to ideas of identity, freedom and the things we inherit, thereโ€™s a lot more sitting beneath the surface.
So I got an opportunity to interact with Blaine 29 to talk about her work, what inspires it, and what she wants us to see when we look closer.

Sometimes, thinking outside the box is simply seeing possibilities where everyone else sees the same thing. Create differently. Look closer. Make something of what's Infront of you. ๐ŸŽจ

The Swamp doesnโ€™t scream. It makes you look closer.
Through subtle textures, symbolism and a whole lot of tension, Munene Kariithi explores power, manipulation and the relationship between those who hold power and those who live under it.
The pigs, the blindfolds, the tension between figures. The more you look, the more the message reveals itself.

Under the Same Sky brings together twin brothers, Mbiyu Ngโ€™angโ€™a and Antony Mega, exploring the different ways they see and experience the world around them.
From Mbiyuโ€™s use of mabati and abstraction to Antonyโ€™s layered interpretation of Nairobi, their works remind us that even when we share the same spaces, we donโ€™t always see the same things.
And yeah, we might as well say there are two experiences and two perspectives involved, but theyโ€™re all under the same sky.

David Kipkoech alias Akiba, a multidisciplinary artist working across painting, collage and fashion, blends Afro-culturism, street culture and sci-fi to explore how we imagine and express contemporary African identity. From his collages to fashion, identity becomes another canvas, turning culture, memory and imagination into something we can see, wear and carry. His work asks us to look at what weโ€™ve inherited, while imagining what we can create from it.

Different approaches, but somehow the works meet in the same conversation about where we come from, what we carry, and what we are still becoming.
