Victor Wanyama has opened up about the coach who had the greatest influence on him as he prepares for life in management.
Throughout his career, Wanyama worked under several high-profile managers, including Neil Lennon, Mauricio Pochettino, Ronald Koeman, José Mourinho, Thierry Henry, Hernán Losada, and Laurent Courtois. However, he says Wilfried Nancy made the biggest impact on him in terms of learning the coaching side of the game.
“I have seen him grow as a coach and he really taught me a lot,” Wanyama said. “I was learning from him. I saw I can also learn and make my own history like what he has done for that club.”
Nancy, who coached CF Montréal between 2021 and 2022, guided the team to the Canadian Championship and a strong MLS playoff run, leaving a lasting impression on Wanyama as he begins to shape his own coaching journey.
